Hello all

I was thinking of getting C a new bridle for competitions etc. At the minute she has:

Not sure of the brand or anything but it's safe to say it's ancient :)

What do you think would suit her? Noseband width I mean? Which brands would you recommend? I am not minted and so have a budget of around £75 :)

I do like pretty as she has quite a fine head but nothing too fancy. I don't know this makes it difficult for you :p

Pretty girl! I would prob pick something that wasn't so 'high' in it's design of the noseband and browband if yswim? It kind of takes over her face a little? I would also consider one that you can buy the bits seperatly so you can get a bigger brow band as it appears at least from the pick that you might struggle to get two fingers comfortably under it. Jefferies are lovely, as are sabre, collegiate (get in the sale from eq clearence) are good for the £. Also worth keeping an eye out on ebay for a posh brand reduced as you can pick up something brand new for less than half the price!! Stubben has some nice designs that are pretty without being show pony like and might suit her looks?

Do you mean it being raised? It is quite fat! And yes I never really noticed the browband before, I will have a look tonight and normally when I put it on I have to arrange it so it sits properly so will check if it's a bit tight.

I'm crap with sizing too - I have no idea if she would be a cob or full as like I say she is quite fine! I think full may be a little bit but I suppose it's better to have more holes (if that makes sense!) then be on the end of the leather?

I like the look of Stubben, very nice (will check ebay!) and I have always liked Sabre, I didn't think of them

(Oh and I think she is very pretty too :D Thank you!)

my old 16.2hh TB was quite fine/dainty but she took a full size bridle most of the time as cob sizes were too small.
i personally prefer bridles that sit 'flat' to the head rather than the raised nosebands/browbands. if you totally concerned about the sizing then might be worth measuring the bridle you know that fits her and then going to a shop and measure the one you are interested in, i've had to do that a few times!

also i agree with the person who said about the browband, it does look a little bit 'snug' on her so check that sizing too.

The sizing is a proper pain! Once you have identified a short list of makes I would contact them to see what their cheek pieces, browband and noseband measurements are for different sizes. Ideally when the bridle is fitted you want the cheekpiece buckles in a line level with or just under a horizontal line from her eye. It is really difficult to get a bridle in one size that fits just right all round. As an example my (normal looking!) mare needs full sized headpiece, cob cheek pieces, extra full browband and full noseband (sometimes an extra full!).

I personally think that if your lucky enough to have a pretty horse then you're best off with a plain type hunter bridle so instead of looking at all the padding a diamante and bling the horse is wearing people look at their face instead! :D
