My new horse is already registered as a graded showjumper, what membership do I need personally? I'm in the 16 and under range and would be competing at Newcomers, Discovery and Foxhunters. But not sure which one I need, its not exactly so clear on the website!
Many thanks :)

I think if i remeber rightly to jump horses when your under 16 you need to be a junior associate member, but you might find you need a full member to sign for you, my mum was also a member as she owned my horses. Also you will need to reregister your horse in your name.

Pony Associate Rider Membership Annual Fee: £46
Is available from the beginning of the calendar year in which the age of 12 is reached, until the end of the calendar year in which the age of 16 is reached. Designed for Pony Rider members who wish to compete on horses and/or ponies. One parent or guardian must also become a Jumping or Non-Jumping member. See also Rule 33.12 for Visiting Pony Associate Membership.

hi there i think you need to be

Associate Membership Annual Fee: £92
Is available from the beginning of the calendar year in which the age of 17 is reached, until the end of the calendar year in which the age of 18 is reached. For members who wish to compete either as rider or owner. See also Rule 33.12 for Visiting Associate Membership.

the height (class would be a better word) depends on your horse's grading.
As far as Im aware, the registered owner of the horse must be a member as well.

for example, my grade A horse can only jump in open classes or discovery as a minimum unless the class description states otherwise

I'm 99% sure that you would be an Associate member (not Pony Associate) and I don't think you need an adult to join. The smallest you could jump would be the 70cm open, but classes such as British Novice etc start at 90cm.

BSJA do some small "intro" shows with 70cm, 80cm, British Novice (90cm) etc

Its just finding a local show that has "intro" days

and it doesnt look like you will need an adult to register as the owner either

Ah thats ideal, thanks all, Colraine is pretty local to me and they do bsja every Sunday, so i expect intro classes are held there, as she is only 5 (:

Is it true your not allowed to compete in any unaf shows if you/your horse is registered bsja?

Thanks all!

So there's this show, its senior british showjumping, i would compete in the 1.10m class. it says for horses to be ridden by full, associate or junior associate members? i cant see junior on the bsja site though?

No, you can compete in any unaffiliated show unless it says it has restrictions on it, but most dont anyway

Junior Bsja shows are for ponies only, if you are competing on horse it would be in seniors. You can compete unaffil as long as the prize money is not over £10 I think xx

junior/pony associate are the same thing, i think bsja just call it pony associate now on their website.

best thing is to ring the membership office (pretty helpful) and they will tell you which one,but im 99% convinced it is pony/associate membership for yourself, and non-jumping membership for your mum or dad, and obviously your horse registered as a grade C

You would need to be an associate member

A parent of your's would also need to join as you are not an adult yet

Even though your horse is already registered you would need to pay for the horse's registration again I'm afraid as you are the new owners (unless you leave the horse registered in the old owner's name until the registration run's out but you may risk a fine in some cases)

If you call the BS they will help you with what you need and if you are already a member of the Pony Club of a Riding Club you can get a discounted package for you, your parent and your horse.

Don't worry about the height of classes as even if your horse has won a lot of money their are intro shows than start at a piddly 70cm :-)
