Never ever thought i'd say this but i miss naughty, bucking, rearing and prancing Mysti :(
Shes currently got a locking/slipping stifle so has probably a few months of slow building up of the fat around the joint and muscle to go yet but shes so deppressed. Shes normally fly bucking and galloping around the field and winding up my other mare but at the moment shes too scared to even go into a trot because 9/10 times her stifle locks.
Im doing all i can, adding oil to her feed and lunging lightly as the vet prescribed, but what can i do to cheer her up?
She cant have likits ect because she had laminitis this year, and im giving her a big fuss everyday and grooming her head to toe but shes still so sad :(
Anyone got any ideas?

If she's okay to lunge I presume she's okay to go for walks? I'd take her out in hand, pref box up and take her to the beach (if possible) or somewhere interesting. Guess they are like us and get bored of seeing the same things..my lad is bored already of the indoor school and we're only a few weeks into winter!!!:(

I must be really lucky with my mare being so gentile she has been box rested since mid july she isnt sad at all cant have any food except speedy beet or hay and the odd sugar free polos:)

Yup shes okay to walk out but she wont go without my other mare and my other mare is a cow on the roads and i have no off road hacking that i can get to without going on at least one road :o

Yup! My mares a bit of a stress head, she got so stressed being in on her own one night when i first got her she coliced :(

ok .... if walking out in hand is out ... how about exercising her mind with a bit of "trick" training ;) ........ its not physically demanding but it can challenge the mind and depending on what you do teach her it might be beneficial for her.

We do horse agility and its heling to build up Bonneys back as she has had the chirpopacter three times this year and not been able to have the riding to reaaly build her back muscles up again. Some of the obstacles are good for it..... like the bridge and see saw.

You can do it with or without doing clicker training but I find that the CT engages their mind as they are working out what to do rather than just being led / told what to do.

Here are just a few pics of our agility club things

numerous "tricks" . if you are interested you can pm me or I will sugest a few here ;)

Not much, I know, but when i had my mare on box rest for 3 months, i used to drill holes in turnips and hang them up in her stable, it used to keep her occupied trying to eat them!
