I'm getting very confused! I'm looking at either buying or hiring a horsebox for this summer, but I'm utterly confused as to which ones I can drive. I know my driving liciense has various codes which tell me what I can and cannot drive but to be honest I don't find that very helpful.
I passed my test in 2002 and I'm 30. Can anyone tell me what I'm qualified to drive please. Thanks.

You can drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes and can tow a small trailer only if the weight of it and the towing vehicle comes under 3.5 t, which most horse trailers won't.

Not sure exactly! There's one license for an LGV (up to 7.5 tonne then another for an HGV, over 7.5. You can do training to drive them, or just sit the test depending on how experienced you are. Can also get a license to tow a trailer, which I did, for this I went to a training centre and did a three day course with a test at the end of it. Costs a few hundred pounds but worth it as they tell you exactly what the examiners are looking for. I found them through an advert in a horse magazine. Am sure LGV training compnaies will do similar, hopefully someone on here will know of something suitable.

As far as I know you cn tow a little trailer poss not horsebox trailer as weight of vehicle, horse and trailer would exceed 3.5 tonns and can drive a horse lorry up to 3.5 tons. ultimately this is one of the little 3.5 tons lorries with ONE horse in. they may advertise 2 horses will fit in the lorry but legally wegihtwise will onyl carry 1 check the payload before as some even have payload of 750kg which is tiny.

This may help, it may not! Basically I think u have the same entitlement as me (i did my test in 2000).

Putting it simply u can drive a car and pull v small trailer (less than 750kg, most horse trailers are 750kg+ on their own).

You can do ur category C which when u pass will let you drive anything with a rigid cab, then after that you can do your artic lorry test. Unless u go all the way to artic lorry level, you will still need to do the '+E test' to tow any trailer over 750kg.

Correct me if I am wrong anyone... Mike007 is normally v hot on all this type stuff.
