Horse now on outshine, he obviously needs feed balancer. Looking at all the other conditioning feeds that I could add into the outshine and balancer, they all seem to have oil in? Can you give them to much oil? I have asked Baileys, and just waiting to see what they say

Hey, I have just completed a nutritional course and have balanced all my diets. Do you have a problem with your horse or are you just trying to give him a balanced diet? Is he on haylage and how much do you feed him? I had to have my haylage analysed to see exactly what it contained and this is the best way to go if you want to do it really precisely. If I can do anything to help please just ask. :)

Jeni - sounds good! He is on the maximum dosaage (1.3 kg) of outshine, plus 500g (recommended) of balancer. Yard then feed him sugar beet and barley for another couple of feeds a day. I am not sure what hay he gets during the day whilst in waiting for feeds, this is up to the yard.

Hi, It is very difficult to assess when you don't know how much he is fed. I take it you are trying to put weight on him with the barley and the outshine. I would just be careful that he does not get too full of himself but if you are feeding the balancer at least he is getting his minerals and vitamins. If it is a weight issue then he could do to have ad lib hay/haylage whilst he is in the stable.
Good luck with it and please let me know how he is in a week or two. You can PM me if you like. :)

My beastie has Happy Hoof as his feed, with a good handfull of outshine added, (it is about £40.00 a bag) :( with his carrots and apple and glucosomate, and at the moment with the moulting season Kossalian blood salts, he grazes in the day and has his hay at night, plus he eats some of his straw bed, cheeky sausage, he's looking good on it all.

I think you are fine to feed outshine.. it has no more oil in it than a good dollop of linseed or cod liver oil, which most horses get anyway...
A really good balancing supplement, which is not oil based is Equivite. It really made a difference, especially to the condition of the skin and coat.
