Looking for something to feed my cob to give him more energy for XC as he is so laid back that convincing him to pick up speed can be difficult.

Would something like oats or instant response mix work? And would I have to feed it for a few days beforehand or is there something that I could perhaps only feed the day before?

It's not that he doesn't have the energy or fitness but is just so laid back he's almost horizontal so a little bit more excitment would be very useful!

Thanks.

It might be worth speaking to your/a feed company to check he's getting all the nutrients he needs. My guy is super fit but has been very laid back to the point of lethargy lately and it turned out he needed some more nutrients. I spoke to Baileys whose feed I use and they could not have been more helpful and no hard sell either, discussed other brands of products like alfa-a and everything.

However, pro-pel plus, red cell and naf nrg are good perk-up products but would def check the nutrition first.
