What can I put in a mane and tail?

My horse has a very dry and coarse mane is there anything I can put in his mane and tail to condition it and make it softer and more conditioned? Can I put hair oil or coconut oil in it is that safe or what could I buy to put in it?

second for this, just be careful when you use it on the mane as it makes it slippery and transfers to your reins so you need to wear gloves for riding. otherwise it does a great job...

I use Argan hair oil from the pound shop! I find that horsey stuff contains silicone which makes everything slippery. I'd add some linseed to the diet though. Good coat condtion comes from within.

Linseed will help more than anything it really makes there coat and hair soft and shiny.

anything with silicone in it will actually dry out the hair and make it more brittle in the long run.

I love coconut oil, but it gets messy and can grease up the reins on you. but little and often in this case for me.
