About a month ago my horse pulled some of the muscles around his hips in an accident in the field, and has been lame ever since. We haven't had a vet out to see him as my yard owner knew instantly what was wrong with him...but he just doesn't seem to be getting any better and we don't know what to do with him. Does anyone know what i could do about it?

I would be amazed if your horse was lame just from pulled muscles, usually they look stiff or not 100% if pulled muscles but not lame.. I would have had him checked over by vet if lame after an accident.

Sorry but your yard owner is not a vet and even a vet can not tell what is wrong just by looking.

Your horse has been lame for over a month you need a vet. Say for example your horse has damaged a tendon you could actually find that waiting so long means that he is less likely to come right.

I know it can be scarey and we all just want our horses to get better but you do need a vet.

Well of course a horse can be lame from muscles not working properly. It is the muscles along with ligaments and tendons that move the skeleton. If the muscle is torn/pulled/blocked for whatever reason it won't work either at all or well and the horse will exhibit various signs from stiffness to out and out lameness. However, the horse has had a fall and you need to get some x-rays to ensure nothing is broken and a vet opinion. If nothing structural is wrong then you can go from there.
