I was just reading the dumbest horse post and thought it would be interesting to see what funny or awful charateristics(SP) all your horses have? like mine likes to follow me round with his bottom so i can scratch it. he doesnt like kisses will have the odd cuddle and does whinny at me when i arrive at the yard but not much other than that!

Betty likes to sulk when you bring her tack out.. then when you put her bridle on she pretends to sleep! also she is prone to lifting the wrong foot.. ie if you ask for a certain back leg she will lift the oposite one.. lol does for the farrier as well.. always gets a laugh.. she is also very much the "tart" of the yard! she loves to put her ears back at people as well and if you didnt know her it could seem quite intimidating.. lol i keep telling myself the worse the looks are the more she loves me.!!!

Thumper is very much a 'See no person, hear no person - certainly will not move for a person' type of horse.

He is a real introvert......

I think he quite likes me, and has recently started asking for cuddles, by placing his head in to my chest.

But if he doesn't like something - he just blanks you.

Hooves over his ears and 'la, la, la, la, la can't hear you'.

Hovis is the yard clown - see post below ref the dumbest horse.
Sidney is an aloof beauty who is extremely feline. He likes cuddles and fuss but ONLY on his terms. If he's not in the mood he's bolshy and very stroppy, if he is in the mood he's one of the most affectionate horses I've known. He's also very nosey and capable of some grade A strops.

Ted... whinnies like a possessed asthmatic donkey..

Likes kisses...

Is a stud.. naturally!

Thinks he is a retired race horse RETIRED.. and refuses to do outline

Ebi & Willow are 2 peas in a pod, they will both come galloping when they hear me turn up with the car, they whinney to me, they follow me round the field like my shadow, they love being cuddled - both very affectionate, complete extrovert, not scared of anything.
Chantin is the opposite, moody, narky, introvert, scared of her own shadow, self conscious, bogs off up the field if she sees the trailer appear (even if its not for her lol) will be caught when she wants to be caught (the joys of her being herd leader!) enjoys attention on her terms, will tell you when shes had enough of anything. Pretends she cant hear you

Murphy is stubborn, and I think he thinks it's really funny to wind me up sometimes, he definitely has a sense of humour.

He's reasonably clever, and develops little "tricks" to test me out. His latest one was, when I was putting his bridle on, to wait until the reins were over his neck and then the minute I slipped the headcollar off his nose, to charge round his stable in a circle, repeatedly...obviously the reins were round his neck and I couldn't let go of his bridle, so I just had to run around after him, like a fool. He'd stop after about 6 laps, looking hugely pleased with himself.

He's really very soppy, and likes to rest his head on my shoulder and sigh dramatically in my ear, and he likes to press his muzzle up to my face for a kiss.

He gets all excited by cantering round the school, and bounds along, half galloping, ears pricked, hurtling round the corners.

He's very rarely grumpy - I've had him for a year and in that time I've seen him put his ears back properly twice.

He's a cheeky, happy, cuddly little monster!!

When ever we get up the yard both ponies always come trotting down to see us, everytime lol.
They both love kisses (on the nose) and will actually lick you back.
Oh and Asbo is naughty and always paws the ground even when you tell him off.

And last but not least they are the most cheekiest pponies ever, when they know the electric fencing is off they both pick it up in their mouths and Asbo goes under it, and tilly goes over it - to clever for their own good me thinks

Poutu is a very sweet little mare. Only really behaves for me, so she is definately a one person horse. Last time someone looked after her when I went on holiday (Very experienced horsewoman, better rider than me, very confident!) Poutu bolted with her in the yard and sat on someones car! Poutu is also NOT a morning person, she has that dopey look on her shavings covered face asif to tell me that she has just woken up lol! She is an introvert to everyone but me. I can cuddle her, do what I want with her etc and she will just stand and take it! Poutu is not a horse for the faint hearted, but she is very sweet really

Star really makes me laugh, he has the most cheeky character! He will not have ANYTHING hanging over his stable, if I put rugs or anything on there they are either on the floor or in with him in about 5 minutes. He is not a typical fell pony, he's absolutely HYPER all the time, refuses to walk and theres is no way he can stand still. My friend always says he's like a naughty child! When Im in the arena with him, I'll be trotting him round a corner and he'll suddenly decide he wants to canter and he'll just canter on the spot squealing

Im sure he was also a racehorse in a past life, he thinks, the faster the better! He's one of the smallest, cobbiest horses on the yard, but when we go for a hack and have a canter he's always the one in front!

H is a little boy. On the rare occasions I have to tell him off, he hides around the side of the car, and won't talk to me for five minutes. He loves a fuss and a cuddle and my OH has taught him to give full on kisses (when he's in the mood). He is also competitive and will race (and usually beat) anything. As he is a 14.2hh Newfie, this can be enormous fun.

After a ride he likes to 'hang out' with the OH and I as we chat and have a coffee, which is how I discovered that he is also partial to a sip of my coffee and a bit of my twix

My friends horse used to lie down the minute she saw her tack
grin.gif
!! Even if you tacked her up she used to just sit down!! It was funny to see but it took them a while to cure her of this!!

My horse can be very sweet and cuddly but when ridden is VERY arrogant!!!! He's very mischieveous and I can imagine him as a kid at the back of the class flicking things at the teacher and generally being very cheeky, but intelligent and sweet enough to get away with it!

Both mine wicker (sp?)at me, come to call and are very cuddly.
Fudge used to deliberately tread on peoples feet or push them over (he is much better and doesn't do this now). However he does through things across the yard (usually his headcollar or anything someone leaves on his door) and scream his head off if both Lady and I leave him even if there are other horses around
laugh.gif

He likes licking people, usually on the face when he's just had a drink or eaten his dinner
smile.gif
and he's just geting over spooking at his own shadow

(He's got the Welsh D sense of humour that's for sure).
Lady is a wonderful lead rein for small kids but very fizzy for anyone over about ten, she also does his funny one legged bucks when excited.
Oh and she dreams like a dog (neighs and scrabbles etc) and falls aslep with her head in my lap.

Mine is just a plain fool (but a clever one if that makes sense?!) he can undo his stable bolt quick as a flash and even any clips you try shut it with (he now has a 'fort knocks' style bolt on he can't get!). He loves having raspberries blown on the side of his top lip, he also has a metal fetish and loves licking the metal gate after he's had some feed! Odd!

He has knocked off railings and squeezed under sight wire (presumably on his knees) to get to 'the better grass'! he loads himself in his horsebox, whickers if you call his name, does not like to be ignored (he'll get his leg tied up in his rope if you leave him - well you have to give him attention then to 'rescue' him!)

In conclusion i think he's like a half tonne 5 year old child!(although he is 17 now, i've had him since a 4 year old) He keeps me amused though and I wouldn't change him. He used to worry us a little when he was 4 in his enthusiasm to come to see you, took a while for him to learn stopping distances when running straight down a hill to you!

Where to start. Will put foot through the fence and dangle it for feed, will on a regular basis wee to get feed to come quicker(?), Is the bossiest horse in the field, chases the others away constantly but won't be without them, give an inch he will take the full 9 furlongs, loves having scratches and occasionally loves but not when he's not in the mood, can be the most annoying horse ever when bored, has fetishes for toggles, zips, likkits, horselix, WKD and diet coke, rticularly the diet coke bottles becuase he can play music on the gate or bars of his stable... loves nothing better than to show me and his owner up on a daily basis, and is the MASTER of inventing new tricks and evasions.

Ah, the Welsh D

My little girl is a funny thing. She is not a cuddly type at all, but loves it when my mum gives her this weird face massage, which she does everytime mum sees her. She wiggles her moustache if she approves of anything you do. And she'll get terribly embarassed if you catch her doing something she shouldn't.

mattie: if he doesn't like you, he'll chew grass and drop it in your pocket, if you're too small he'll get down and roll or push you out the way and if theres a water bucket....he'll throw it at the shetland ponies
And he doesn't like my mum....he makes her move out the way but if he sees me, he neighs like a girl and generally mouches his way over to see me.
