My friend wants to do some in hand showing with Mo next year (get him cut in Oct and turn away for the winter). He'll be a 2 yr old Arab/Cob gray, hoping 14hh+

What 'class' would he be and what if you get to the show and the horse is a little punk and decides everything he sees is 'scary'? Do you just withdraw from the show and go home?

Just thinking about the possibility for experience for Mo, his confirmation isn't fantastic I don't think but not the worst put-together horse in the world either... be happy to escape without any scathing remarks from the judges lol.

You don't have to enter in advanced. It is a little more expencive but when I took the horrid one to his first show the other week I turned up unloaded him led him round a bit to see if he was behaving (if he wasn't i would have lead him round till he settled then re loaded and taken him home) He was so then i entered some classes. It's usualy around £2 more to enter on the day but it's less than withdrawing and loosing the whole entry fee.
As for classes you could do.
Youngstock 1,2&3 yrs old,
Part bred arab,
Cob type? if he is cobby,
Handsomest gelding,
Horse/pony the judge would most like to take home,
Most appealing eyes,
Novice inhand.
Take him and have a fab day. Who cares what anyone else thinks you love him and thats all that matters and it's a good way to show youngsters the world. :)
Hope you have a nice time and remember post lots of pics of your lovely pony at his first party. :D :D

As Laura said, p/b classes, youngstock, novelty classes etc, etc.

There are some nice little shows locally to you in Springtime, just right for taking babies to for experience. None that I know of expect advance entries. Parc Howard has an in-hand show very early on.

If he does throw a wobbly then he won't be the first, the experience will be good for him and when his eyes go back in his head he'll be fine I suspect.

If a Judge does say anything scathing (not really very likely) it is only their opinion, on that particular day and really not terribly important in the grand scheme of things. I've seen some godawful 2 year olds placed down the line, as three year olds they return and sweep the board.

Have Fun.
