I have recently brought a pure ID gelding and i was wondering which classes would be best to enter him in??
Also he suffers from sweet itch would it be acceptable to show him hogged??
Thanks all

You can show him as a hunter, depending on his size will depend on which weight class. You can show him in breed classes. At local level - blue chip qualifiers - the smalls, cobs and hunters are all show together. At the finals they are split up.

hog him if he is cob height & type otherwise show him plaited. If you look on the IDHS (GB) website you will find all the details of shows running blue chip classes. If you want to show at county shows as a hunter he will need to be over stamped by the relevant society running the qualifying classes - hoys or RI.

At local level just about anything goes. And if he's a typical ID he will turn his hoof to anything. Equitation ? working hunter ?

Like others have said you can do lots of classes with him, also at county level showing, you get some shows which have specific Irish Draught Classes run by the irish draught society, I remember looking at it a few years ago to do with my boy but unfortunately he is not registered. I hope you have lots of fun with your ID they are a very verstaile breed, having competed up to elementary with my boy, and sj up to 1m and schooling higher levels at home they are amazing. I will never have another horse thats not an ID
