im deciding what clip taz will be having this year he is usually fully clipped but this year his work load wont be as much as it usually is due to not having a school he will be worked 5 days a week but it wont be as intense as it would usually be im so used to having an indoor school and now i dont have a school at all and being on clay working will be more difficult so we will be hiring a school so just got to think of a clip for him :o

so what will your horses be having?

cookies and tea for anyone who replies :p

My girl will be having a chaser clip again this year, i like it as it clears the underside and most of the neck where she sweats most, but leaves the back covered as she is out through the day and in at night

Luckily for me, my lad's winter coat is so fine that I seldom bother clipping him. I did a trace clip two years ago and a week later he fell in his field and spent the rest of the winter on box rest. Two hours and £30 wasted...

Modified hunter clip - everything off except legs, saddle patch and face - but he's rugged up with neck rugs and wears a vest underneath his rugs. He's working harder now and gets sweaty and itchy.

P

Full clip bar legs and half her face.
Mainly because she winters well and even if I give her a blanket clip she still sweats up so a full clip it is! Plus they look so much nicer ;)
If I can get her legs off this year I will.

Im not too sure what clip to give him this year, last winter he had a hunterish clip everything but legs, saddle patch and half face. he but hes not doing as much work, no hunting this year :(

But he looks so much better clipped fully would it be wrong to have this clip again this year, if he is rugged up well and fed well like he usually is (never drops much weight/condition in winter) ?

i dont think that will be wrong my horse usually has a hunter clip and he has never hunted ;)

my problem is that the big ginger beast does drop off weight he is usually in a medium weight with a heavy weight with a neck in the coldest parts of the winter and is on adlib haylage and a huge amount of food and still comes out ribby

Modified hunter (saddle patch, legs, and half face left with hair) for my 22yr old TB, a modified trace clip (all neck out and then clip line going down to the stifle) on my 10yr old TB. Both only get ridden at weekends in winter and are both turned out 24/7. High necks on when we have snow or minus numbers at day. They get too hot otherwise and they pull their rugs off.

I'm toying with the idea of full clips for both of mine this year (minus legs and half face as they're just too tricky.) They normally have blankets and their workload doesn't really demand a full but they both:
a) could do with losing quite a few pounds and it might help as neither loses much in winter
b) were both only in middle weight rugs with a snuggy hood last year and were toasty warm even in the really cold spell
c) are grey and are a pain in the proverbial when they start moulting in the spring.
d) get horribly muddy despite being rugged from nose to tail - literally.

They're out 7am until 6.30pm and in overnight.

Jay is only a baby and is being turned away for the winter - so he's going to need all his hair.

Manni will be hunting every week, and ridden 4 times during the week as well. So he'll start off with a chaser clip, but taking off all the hair on his legs and his head too. The next clip will be a full clip, but leaving on what's left on his legs and leaving a patch for his saddle.

First clip blanket with legs and half face left on for everyone, second when they come in for the night and third/ fourth depending on how often they get clipped all off except half face and legs, and last one all off except half face for everyone except the fell pony who has legs left on. :)

Everything, including legs, knickers, face, mane .... all bar the tail.

Retired from showing, Show cob who

Hates being hairy (and i mean she sulks and gets petulant),

Loves looking smart (you should see her after she has had a clip, she shows off to the other horses with a look at me look in her eyes),

Generally runs very warm (she has a good internal furnance I think)

and

Grows a coat for fun even in the summer so gets clipped every 6 weeks or so ... with great thanks to my OH who does a lovely job.

(Just ask Flicker .... she knows my girl)

Only horse I've seen being clipped with no headcollar. She just stands in the yard and goes to sleep.

Thanks to Teagan's OH who also did a lovely job clipping my lad :)

A dodgy one....

I have just got some new heavy duty clippers, I can't even hold them let alone clip with them ha ha.

The arab will stay hairy as she hardly grows a coat anyway, if needs be I'll do her a bib.

The shire x will have a blanket as he tends to get sweaty armpits.

The welsh will be left totally alone to grow a wild and scary bog-pony coat and mane.

Assuming Connie stays sound and in consistant work i'll have a 'bib' done (just down the gullet on her neck and chest, and then if she needs more maybe progress to a half blanket, ie. all her neck, down her shoulders and under her belly leaving legs & bum on.

Cobby will have a low trace which may or may not go up to a blanket depending on the weather. Not sure if the TB will be clipped or not, it depends on how much of a coat she grows :)

All off :D Last year he had a blanket for his first clip but only as he had never had a set of clippers on him before then a full clip apart from half his face for his next one. This year he will have his legs clipped out on the first clip, as it he didnt get mud fever after they were clipped last year. He will be in work though probably quite a bit as I will have time in the day to ride him as we are off to uni.
