Hey horsie peeps! Not sure if this is the ideal thread for this kind of thing but I'm going to assume so? Anyway... thinking of buying some clippers for my horses, what clippers do you recommend?

So far I've got my eyes on these as they don't need to be too extravagant, just needs to get the job done and they seem decent priced plus they got alot of good reviews it seems.

It depends what you want to do with them, if you just want to trim faces, ears etc these will be ok but I doubt they will do a full clip or legs.
I have Lister Liberty, man enough for the job and you can buy Covercote blades for legs which leave 5mm of hair for protection ( I have a show cob fully hogged and trimmed)

Hmm, ok. Well, yes I do want them for a full body clip so I appreciate the input there. Like to also add that unfortunately Lister Liberty are way out of my budget right now. If only I got my damn credit card sorted... :-/

They aren't clippers. They are trimmers. If you only want to trim, they'll be fine.

Clippers are more expensive for a reason! I have Lister Liberty clippers too, and they are great. I've only had them since the autumn and I've already made my money back on the purchase price - I've done 2 full clips, one hunter clip, and several leg-only clips - If I had paid someone to come to the house to do those, it would have easily been the £300 the clippers cost to buy. Good clippers are an investment.

Not trying to dispute whether they're worth buying, I simply said it's out of my budget which is sort of why I said

in regards to the others I was looking at. It's not that I don't appreciate the response or input was merely saying they're out of my league as it stands. Regardless I am still interested in what people prefer or recommend.

I'm afraid I'm another lister liberty fan!
It might be worth contacting some of the clipper service/blade sharpening companies as they occasionally get 2nd hand pairs in to sell on.
I bought mine on eBay as I was also on a budget but did then have to buy a new battery pack and so actually the cost would have been about the same as if I'd bought new after all ? but worth maybe keeping an eye on, or just holding off and saving up a bit longer if you can

Not a problem, this just tells me they'd be worth getting if at all possible in the future :) Problem is I really could do with some a bit sooner and that's the real dilemma right now. Suppose I could have mentioned that in the original post but again I am interested in what people generally like best. Also thanks for the advice.

Has anyone here tried VOSS or EasyTrek ? Seem a bit cheaper than Lister.

Just found a forum on EasyTrek posted almost a decade ago, seems people liked them back then..?

Why not stick with Masterclip? They do a good range of clippers (not trimmers) from £160 upwards. Mine have been going for years.

tbh I never really thought about it since no one was mentioning other Masterclip products. Not exactly "sticking with" them since I don't even own any atm, just shopping around I suppose. However, it's a good suggestion if any but I also assume you're referring to MD Roamer? Call me naive but the VOSS I linked to looks more heavy duty to me in comparison? I'd have to do a full check on stats before deciding whether £160 was worth a medium clipper vs others first. However it seems you can get HD Roamer with Trimmer for just under £300 which isn't bad vs a Lister which is most certainly the same if not more without any extra. Thanks for the suggestion.

Shame I can't find any pay in installment deals or buy now pay later or whatever.

I've got masterclip HD roamer (cordless) and they are really good. Cut through thick cob hair well and I'm a complete novice and they were easy for me to wield!

I have just part clipped my pony, he came exhausted with the heat, he is black and still has a thick winter coat.
I couldn't be bothered to get the horse clippers out, and I have never clipped him before so I used dog Masterclip clippers,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143324348049
I was very impressed, this is a pony that has wintered mostly out, so has a long dirty winter coat, and full of dried sweat. The best thing is they are light and quiet, and for anyone who has not been taught how to clip, there is no tensioning to worry about.
I think I paid about £90 with 3 sets of blades. I think if I just had one horse I wouldn't bother with a horse clipper, mine are heavy and noisey.
