What colour hoof oil?

The horse is black with 4 white socks, should we use clear hoof oil or black? Someone has said black but it looks a bit odd with his white socks, whats the norm?

Me to but its not my horse, what the boss says goes! The hoofs are white, well not white but you know what I mean! Not black!

and if you dont want to use clear hoof oil, or dont have any, vaseline works just as well!

I thought hoof oil had fallen out of favour? If the hoof is oiled when wet, moisture stays locked inside and can't evaporate. If the hoof is oiled when bone dry, moisture is locked out of the hoof and a brittle hoof can result.

I agree B, mine gets a coat of Kevin Bacon straight after shoeing and that's it.
