He has a mottled nose and around the eyes (although that's quite faint, especially in the winter) and very stripy hooves.

He also sometimes (in summer) appears to have white speckles on his back. His forehead is has white flecks on it too.

Snowflake appy? Roan? His passport just says "brown"

Thanks in advance!

Do you have any better photos? I can't really see the flecking, mottled skin or stripy hooves in these. If I just judged him by these photos, my best guess would be a sunbleached or copper deficient black (going by the faded tips to his mane). Is he pure Shettie, or does he have some other miniature breed (eg American miniature horse) in his pedigree?

These are the best ones I have of his skin/coat because it pretty much disappears in the winter! I can get one of his hooves tomorrow though :)

He's not full shetty according to his passport, but it just says Shetland X. He is a bit smaller than a proper Shetland though!

You can faintly see appy markings on his rump, that with the mottled sking, striped hooves and white sclera make me think he has spotty/appy genes, probably his other parent was a BSP.

ETA I would say he is black not brown, appy genes often make black appear brownish.

I wish I knew what he really was - his passport offers VERY little info. It literally says "Brown" "Shetland X", his birthday and that's about it!

I do wonder if his parent/s were appy, as his previous name was "Frosty" and to give that name to a black/brown pony would be a little unusual.
