Hello,
So I've just started back riding as an adult and all of a sudden I get to decide what colour things are..not my mum or my yard owner.
I have a young chestnut gelding American Paint horse that I am hoping to do some dressage, SJ and maybe some showing etc. Bit of everything most likely unaffiliated...to start with at least.

I need to get him a new saddle and so was debating between dark brown or black tack.
Then I needed to think about what helmet I would get as my 10 year old one is looking a little tired.
Ive always had a charles owen skull, but I quite like the CO Ayr8 or the similar styles. But what colour? Then id need a new jacket to match!
I do like Navy, I've never had navy before!

My thoughts were dark brown tack, but then would I look odd with black boots (as I think thats the rules isn't it) navy blue jacket and hat...sounds a bit multi coloured!

Should I stick to a skull cap so I can change the colours?
Can you show, do dressage and SJ in the ayr8 style hats?

O all these rules are so difficult! help!

I have black tack on my grey and on my chestnut. IMO it looks better than brown, others may disagree... but I prefer it.

I have a navy jacket and a navy helmet too (which looks similar to the ary8 helmet). I have a helmet cover that allows me to chage the colour of my helment whenever I like, so it's up to you on the style.

I am not sure on the rules in the UK, but I use my helmet in eventing, dressage, sj and showing and have never had a problem. Maybe if you need a velvet helmet, buy a velvet cover for it??

Here is my grey and I sporting the black & navy look :)

Thanks for your response!
I do like your chestnut in black! Some it can look quite harsh on them but yours looks smart!
I do like the navy jacket too! So much to think about

You can't go wrong with a tweed jacket. However navy is fine for sj and dressage and accepted at local level showing. Hat can be navy or black for above disapline. The only one you HAVE to have a skull cap for is anything involving xc. I prefer Brown tack, Brown is correct for showing but again black at local is fine. Most top show riders have Brown tack and black boots so that is a perfectly acceptable combination :)
