Hiya!!

After looking at Tillys passport last night, I noticed that shes registered as a Piebald, which I dont think she is because her "black bits" are infact very dark brown and she alot of speckled white hair covering her dark bits.. is she a tobiano?

Sorry for my crap explanation!

Can anyone tell me what her correct colour is?

Not a great photo, only one I have on Photobucket that shows her colour.

Hi,
Without seeing the whole horse in the flesh it's hard to say, but you're prbably OK with piebald. True black is actually quite rare outside of certain breeds, so true black-and-white is rare too, so if they're blackish, it is usually good enough! If there's a lot of brown around too, some people would go for "tri-coloured"!
Yes, tobiano is probably correct. Pie and skews generally come in tobiano (very traditional markings) and overo (most common on certain American breeds) options, though this is a simplification.
It was once described to me as Tobianos look like the paint went top-to-bottom, overos from side-to-side. They're all skewbalds or piebalds. Overos more often have a white face but that's not the main determining feature I don't think.
Genetically, overo and tobiano are quite different too.
The mixed-in white bits don't really affect what you'd call her colour-wise unless there was enough that she was really a roan!

OK thanks for the all feedback..

As I said this isnt the best picture to really show you her colour! I will take pictures (hopefully tonight) and re-post tomorrow to see what you all think.. She has got alot of white mixed into her "black" markings. Im not going to change her passport or anything I was just wondering what her "correct colour" should be.

if that is the horse in your signature line she is definatly tobiano. Cant see if she is bacl or very dark brown.

There is a chance the white flecking in her coat is caused by a seperate gene, maybe sabino.

Hi, yes she is a tobiano, but the name refers to the pattern not the coloring.

Volatis, I absolutely love your coloureds. A miniature mare of mine once threw a filly with the same markings as your whiter one, down to the splodge on the side and the dark tail! Not quite as dramatic on something that was 18" high at birth.
