Do you like to keep the immaculately white or are they are lighter shade of mud??
How many bales do you use a week??

Just being incredibly nosey!

i usually have 2 a week i put them in on sunday so by about friday its starting to turn a nasty colour.
i have put 3 in this week so he is looking incredibly clean, the cleaner the bed the more i seem to take out, so i prefere it to be a offish sort of colour!

Mine's always a dark mud coloured. I don't know how anyone keeps their beds so clean and white. Mine only has to look at her nice white bed for it to turn brown. My YO compared her to an elephant the one day she did my mucking out! The wheelbarrow never moved from outside her stable.

I put down 2 bales a week.

Oh dear.... I have ocd.... few bales each week... but only because im very restricked.... if it was up to me it be a bale a day.... always put the oldest down first then banks and refill the banks.... Now have straw banks and shavings bed if ya get me... my banks are past my hip

Definitely keep my pristine white.... they are both on rubber matting and have two bales in a week to keep it looking brand new. I do think it is a bit OCDish because I panic when someone else (ie. my husband) has mucked out for me as a huge favour. I find it hard not to go in and start picking bits of poo up he has missed and redoing the whole job!

Mine start off white but go manky after about 4 days. If she stood a bit then they would be fine, but she pathers about and messes it up!

becki... same... i can't stand others mucking out.... even when i was in plaster and crutchs i would sneek up and give it a once over.... i siv through the whole bed thing theres not a singel dropping....

Cairo- brown in the middle fading to the outside

He is on mats so middle is removed every day but he is a mucky bugger. 1/2 - 1 bale of shaving and 1/2 of dixons in winter and 1/2 shavings and 1/2 dixsons every 2 weeks in summer.

Chancer - whiteish when I put in new bales at start of the week going to a light brown by Friday - he is clean but poos for England - damm that high fibre always eating diet!

He has 1 1/2 - 2 bales a week in the winter and about 1/2 a bale in the summer every other week.

mine are both white, however both mine are on rubber matter with just a small corner of shavings at the back of the stable as they are both incredibly dirty. I get through one bale a week between the two of them.

Do you find the horses and rugs get muckier like this?

I daren't try it, such a wuss! Asti has full mats but still has a decent shavings bed with small banks (just to look nice!) and I use 1 bale a week and hers never stays white for more than a day, she's a filth bag!

Usually mid brown by saturday which is full muck out day. I only droppings pick through the week.

When i had Trike they were colgate white!!!

When i got Senza she kicked it about so much that they went the colour of mud no matter how well i mucked out. I changed her to straw and mucking out has been heaven ever since.

I only ever used 1 bale of shavings a week.

I'm on straw, but my aunties shaving beds you can't even tell the horses have been in since beginning of november!

Another liveries bed on the yard is a nice shade of brown... i suppose its how you muck out cos it's no dirtier

I have shaving down in my field shelter as its on a concrete base. Its deep littered so is rarely white. Light brown usually. I prefer it that way as when its white it blows away and gets in their manes, tails and eyes etc so I usually mix it in with the used stuff.

My oldie is sooooooooooooooooo clean, he is a gem to clear out, so shavings constantly look new and fresh....as for Mr young boy, well, lets just say he makes up for it.....mucky monster, i'm sure he has a party in his bed everynight!!

Nearly - I use dixons dustless chopped straw mixed 50 - 50 with shaving for Cairo.

Better than just chopped straw on mats, more asborbant but having the chopped straw mixed in with the shavings makes for a plump lookin bed than just shavings - also is £2 a bale cheaper.

I used to use just Dixons when at a yard that charged for taking away shavings. More absorbant than straw and you muck it out like shavings - great for my very piddly mare on her mats.

Cairo likes to think he has a thick bed - spoilt old thing that he is.
