Hiya, just looking for a bit of advice on what to feed my 16.3hh Hanovarian. hes being brought back into work slowly after 6 months off due to an injury. We have built up to about an hour of walking at the moment. Im just looking to really increase his condition as his coat is very dull etc. Hes lives out at the moment and is having 1 scoop of light mix twice a day. Ive read that stud cubes are good for condition?? Any reccomendations?? Thanks xx

I havent tried those but our new boy exracer needed conditioning up so he is out 24/7 and was on Spillers conditioning cubes for a while with pleasing results xx

Allen & Page Calm & Condition (without the barley) along with Argo Cod liver Vit-Min supplement which is around £8.00 per tub, so it's not expensive.

You'll get some weight gain from the feed, with the supplement you'll get a super glossy coat along with the peice of mind that your horse is receiving his vits and mins as well as a little slow release energy due to the oil (just keeps them ticking over) , which is powder form which is better digested than fed in liquid form.

Also just to make sure your horse is getting the best out of his food and supplements, I'd feed Naff Pink Powder, this way your not just paying for expensive poo :D

By condition do you mean weight or muscle? They need different feeding approaches.
Or both?

As far as the dull coat is concerned, a cup of micronised linseed a day works wonders. The horse could also need a broad spectrum vit/min supplement.
Other than that the diet should be based on as much fibre as possible, with additional feed depending on weight/muscle. There is no such thing as a feed that will build muscle but you need good quality protein in the diet alongside correct exercise. For weight gain you need to feed more energy than the horse needs for day to day living.
