One of my friend had a richardson and we put a 16.3 and a 17.2 in it with loads of room to spare.

Oh thanks for that, I was worried my horse wouldnt fit, why did I have to buy a 17.2 lol It was so much easier with my 14.2 she squeezed into any space lol. Well looks like we are going to the show now wahey.:) xx

It depends what model it is to be honest. The vast majority of older trailers were built with 2x16.2hhs as the design criteria. Richardson, Rice and bahill all made a larger version though, for 2x17.2hhs. We had the Bahill version, and it was great, loads of headroom etc, built in 1985. However, they are not as wide as modern large trailers, such as the HB510. I spent a lot of time looking at older trailers when we bought our original one, and I did the best research I could based on old information available (and a tape measure on a number of trailers belonging to friends!). I agree that the picture is a Richardson, but I would caution that its probably a 16.2hh verion, with about 7" headroom (as opposed to the typical 7'6" used in 17.2hh trailers), you may also find it narrow, and may prefer to take the partition out for a big horse. Despite this, I have seen a lot of big horses squashed into small trailoers, and they seem fine, indeed I used to take a 17.1hh to PC in a Rice Europa, and she was fine without the partition.

How would I find out what model it is? As if it would be on the trailer I could ring up friend and ask her partner to double check on it. It looked fine for big horses it was about the same size as an I for williams when I went to see it. and Im the same height as my horse and was plenty of room over my head I was nowhere near the top of trailer and it was defo wide enough.

Unfortunately most older trailer never displayed their model, although there is a small chance it may be on the A-frame. If you really wanted to double checki it then phone Richardson with the Chassis number, and they'll be able to tell you about it. I originally rang Rice (and they're now the same company) regarding weights and they said if I had the chassis number they could give me the model and weights. Otherwise I suggest you take a tape measure, aim for 7'6" headroom for a big horse. Sorry I can't be more help on it.

Thanks for that I will give them a ring, I will check with a tape measure and give them a ring to be on the safe side. Thanks for your help it is much appreciated
