What did you do as a kid that you'd never do now?

Jumping benches on the common
Riding in jeans, daps (plimsolls) and no hat
Taking sixpence to use a phone box in an emergency
Jumping in fancy dress as Adam and Eve in drag!!! with no hat - body stockings and wigs - we did win though.
Jumping on and off a disused railway platform on 14.2

I haven't ridden through MacDonalds drive thru in years

Some of the steep banks I used to ride down and things I used to do bareback I wouldn't dream of doing now I'd have heart failure

Ride without a hat even on the roads - what was I thinking of

Ride in shorts and short sleeved t shirts - used to have bruises to show for it

Ride bareback from field , with just headcollar and no hat.
Jump bareback
Get on anything
Gallop in the same place when hacking out
Get on from the ground - couldn't now even if I wanted

I did a fancy dress as Lady Godiva - the costume was a body stocking, and a hair piece to suppliment my very long hair - no hat

OMG good post!

Clambering onto my horses (some were TB's) in the field with no hat, just a headcollar and rope, and cantering down the field (with all the other horses still in there) to the gate.

Jumping anything that looked jumpable out hacking; park benches, fences, hedges, ditches.

Pretending I was doing the 'hickstead bank' - which involved coming down a huge, almost vertically steep grass bank straight onto a road!

When we were quite young, me and my friend had each got a 'horse and pony' magazine saddle bag, and we'd made our lunch and went off all day on our ponies. We had no mobile phones, and we got completely lost, and eventually when it was almost dark, we knocked on someones door to ask to use their phone to ring our parents up, who came and got us in the lorry. They were livid with us, as you can imagine!

I would never in a million years do any of that now. I suffered several broken bones, all from doing stupid things on my horses as a child (and this was before the times of mobile phones) No horses came to any harm! Just me.

I am a very careful and cautious rider now.

Riding bareback with headcollar back to the field, galloping across the fields to get there

jumping bareback, usually 3' with juts a headcollar again

going hacking for hours at a time

riding before school and then riding again after school (me and horse were very fit!)

jumping anything, going hunting, doing xc

riding bareback and leading two others

I am a nervous nelly these days though!

1. Wanted a horse (any horse) of my own.

2. Having no horse of my own, we painted a load of broom handles with red and white stripes, balanced them on milk crates and ran around the back garden on foot "showjumping".

3. Would insist on wearing the hacking jacket that I'd demanded my parents buy me, not just to riding lessons, but everywhere we went because I was under the impression that everyone would think I was a famous showjumper (and yes, I would even wear it while practising no. 2 above).

4. Shared a bath with my younger brother (well, up until I was about 6, anyway).
