What did you do with your horse if you went traveling?

I'm seriously considering going traveling for 4 months next summer and am in the dilemma of what to do with my horse. I was just wondering what other people have done in the same situation. Did you sell, loan, turn away? And did you regret whatever decision you made?

When I was 17 I moved half way around the world. I was supposed to be away for 1 year. I had decided to sell my horse prior to me leaving but my parents wanted to keep him till I returned, so they put him on full livery. I didn't come home at the end of the year (ended up staying 3 years in total) so I asked them to have him sold. He was bought by the rider who had been keeping him exercised for the year.

We're contemplating moving abroad for anywhere between 6 months to 2 years. The horses will come too.
