What did you learn about horses today?

That the last thing they'll expect to come flying out of the back of a big Peugeot Boxer van (parked side on so they couldn't see inside) is a round bale of haylage! That caused some panic... and then complete over excitement!
 
I learnt that my arab mare can smell snow on the wind and definitely wants to be in her nice warm stable and not in the field!!
 
On Wednesday I learned that when my nag decides to take trot poles at a canter, not to salvage my balance using my hand as I now have a punch fracture to said right hand and can't ride until been to the fracture clinic in 2 weeks! :(
 
That Bob is an angel with novice riders! My friend who hasn't ridden for 30 years came and had a little go on him today and he was a superstar :D He's only just turned 6 too bless him. Very proud Mummy!
 
That even ponies fed linseed can still get the odd witches (thieves) plait, that takes about 20 mins to untangle. Mind you she does get far fewer these days.
 
That my yearling fillies who have been running (wild) on the forest since May last year have remembered all their lessons from when they were foals and allowed themselves to be caught and led and behaved perfectly. They have come home for TLC until spring, and they seem very pleased to be back in the "land of plenty".
 
That it doesn't matter how hard you scrub the dried mud around his ears, as long as you approach from above, not the side.

More sadly, that he needed an opportunity to realise and accept the recently empty stable next door is empty :( he's been down for a few days, but let him stick his head in today and just take his time ... I hadn't realised he needed that.
 
That small ponies can have LOTS of energy and like to display this by refusing to walk, bucking in hand and leaping and plunging around. Oh the joys of well not really spring!
 
that our two boys are very different to ride and that I prefer riding Ron....

I also learnt that Ron doesn't like whippets looking in his stable :confused:
and that Tom can be a pain in the backside (ok so I already knew this, but I was reminded...)
 
That sheep in a field are more scary than tractors towing a bus (literally) of beaters, followed by a 4x4 with a rattly trailer :confused:

Horses are weird!
 
That the donkey is totally daft/ chilled... bungee loop flicked over his ear, not a problem, other geegees went belting past the side of the school, not a problem, get the bug-er to move off the leg? Not a chance!

Someone forgot to tell him he's a TB ex racer and is expected to be a bit more fizzy at 6! Oh well... We shall keep at it!
