when i was growing up i wanted to do lots of different things but what i really wanted to do was be a dog handler for the police or a mounted policewomen !!
well as yet being almost 30 i havnt achieved that yet but am sure i will reach goals eventually if i ever have time lol lol

i always wanted to be an equine vet....was going to go to bristol uni. the sudden unexpected death of my 10yr old horse when i was 12 made me realise i couldnt cope with having to actually put a horse down....then i flunked all my science GCSEs....
needless to say, its not going to happen now! i'm 19, and studying english at uni....would love to get into equestrian/motor racing journalism!

Urrrmmm - One thing was that every Sunday I used to go out hacking on the Ashdown Forest with the riding school. I used to ride ahead and pretend that I was on my own, on my own horse. Always wanted my own horse. Finally got one 15 yrs later!!

I always wanted to be a vet then realized I had to go and do time in an abbattoir and couldn't face that (having never eaten meat in my life) so I decided to be a scientist instead which I now am!!

wanted to be a vet but my chemistry was cr4p so I gave up on that and became an engineer instead
now I'm in IT and bored to tears
I always wanted to work with horses and parents said - you must get a proper job and proper qualifications
so now - I do a homeworker IT job and work with horses running a small yard

so I do 2 jobs - as I've got too many of my own horses - but I still need the IT job to fund everything

so I ended up with what I wanted to do - it just took me 30 years to get there but I'm fitter than a lot of people years younger than me, never have to diet and can eat what I want

so there are advantages to 'shovelling' - also never have any problem sleeping.....!

thats cool ss you now have the best of both worlds,im ok as dad owns livery yard and i live and have my horse here but stiil want to also reach other goals

I always wanted to have dressage horses and compete. I always quite fancied being a police officer too.

I have come to realise that there is no way I could afford to buy or run a yard so have gone for the second option. I still have 1 dressage horse and compete so life has turned out pretty well. I will have plenty of time for horses later in life so earning and having a career is coming first.

I wanted to be a vet, but when physics and chemisty are enigmas and it took 3 attempts to get O level maths it was out of my range

For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a Riding instructor, but Father made me take a 'fall back' qualification too (Nursery Nursing), I did qualify as a riding Instructor and subsequently realised that I absolutely hated it and have never, ever used it.

Nursery Nursing was good, lots of travel and interesting people. I never envisaged that it would lead, in strange ways to a stint with arab race horses which led (chance meeting) to me poncing around the race tracks of Europe for a year promoting Barclay Motor Racing Team, which was the greatest fun I have ever had. The buzz from race cars is even better than riding in a horse race.

It was never in the game plan to move to Canada.

wow enfys isnt it strange where life takes you without even realising and it happens so fast !!!
i bet the motor racing was brill im in to my cars as well as horses.how cool for you to have done that !!!

I wanted to be a vet, then I wanted to be a physio then a nutritionist all of these equine. I then went back to vet but realised I was never going to get the grades so went back to physio but then at the last minute changed my mind to do psychology.
I am now at uni studying Ecology and Conservation!! So who knows what job I will do but one day I want a house with land so that I can have some sheep, goats, horses, chickens and other furry animals.

yep it is crazy sometimes when you try and plan things and things just do not turn out how you imagined!

when i was younger i wanted to be a vet and i was actually quite good at biology, however in year 10 i went off the rails and fluffed up my a levels. then i went to horsey college for 3 months (!) and left, went to work on a showjumping yard but hated being paid f all and working 100 hours a week.

still dont know what i want to do.....have been thinking about advertising because i have quite a overactive mind and want a job where i am constantly busy and thinking.......working is admin isnt really doing it for me at the moment.

sometimes i think 'god i wish i knew what i was meant to do and hurry up and do it', but another part of me is excited that i dont know what is going to happen to me. look at Enfys - she didnt plan a move to canada! so who knows i might end up in china or something

OOOooh Lizzie, that could have been me writing that post!! I wanted to be a vet but didn't get the grades, after looking at other things, I went to uni to study ecology and environmental science, absolutely loved it! Am now a primary school teacher and horses are my hobby not my career.

I too wanted to be a riding instructor, but was told to study for a 'proper' job, ended up going to Uni to do an Ecology degree as well and used it whilst I was a researcher for Gardening Which magazine, I was then made redundant and I ended up working in my local library so to progress I did a degree in Library Science via distance learning whilst I was working full time (eek) so now i'm a chartered librarian / library manager - not quite what I planned or wanted out of life, I would really love to be an equine nutritionist though.

I did however spend 30 yrs dreaming about having a horse and at long last that dream has come true!

I always wanted to work with horses, tried having a 'proper job' and lets say it didnt go that well

so am now at uni doing a BSc in Equine Sports Performance. When I have enough cash will begin training as an equine shiartsu practisioner, and a barefoot trimmer.

I wanted to marry a wealthy farmer - I didn't.

I did become a farmer myself though, so sort of made it there in the end......not quite as financially-wealthy as imagined but the feel-good-wealthy-life has well and truly been fulfilled.

.....and you may well be Katy

. Good things come to those who wait LOL!! I enjoy the farming lifestyle, I really do, although I know it doesn't suit everyone; one day you might just get there too. Don't lose sight of your dreams.

I'm sure I will. As a kid i was happiest doing early morning feeding with my dad and riding on the tractor. You just don't get many female farmers round here, so i guess finding a job as a hand would be difficult. But it's something I've always wanted to do, so I'll do my damndest to make sure I do something along those lines.

Well I always wanted to earn lots of money!!! Didn't really care how it appeared in the bank account to be honest! I'm doing a PhD at the moment, and hope to go into a job in the pharmaceutical industry. So looks like the pots of money might be smaller than I imagined! I always wanted to own a competition horse. That's a couple of years off yet, but I have a ride on one in the meantime.

I always wanted to be a solicitor. Failing that, I would have loved a job in acadaemia. Things went somewhat pear shaped during my A Levels and first year at University, then I moved away to be with my other half. I never did finish my degree, but I'm lucky enough to not have to work. I have been studying a bit with the Open University, so I aim to finish my degree some day before I hit 50!

wanted to rehabilitate problem horses. Wrote and told Glenda Spooner of the Ponies of Britain Society this, but she, taking a quick squint at my post code, I imagine, expressed doubt that I would ever be qualified to do anything with horses!

30 years, one BHSAI, and a lot of jobs later, including being a groom on the international circuit, and running stud yards, I am now a happily downshifted mum with lots of animals of all kinds, two children, one of whom is a 'problem child' and three rescued 'problem' ponies, all doing very well, thank you.

One should not speak ill of the dead, though.

When i was younger i really wanted to be a profesional show rider, i thought i was the bees knees after all the bugger shows, then i realised that i was actualy scared of the ponies, and would rathers do M+M, but the realised there are very few preffiionals. Then i wanted to be a vet, my grades prpbably would be good enough to get it but on work experience i realised i could get a job working with horses/animals, be just as happy as i would be as a vet, but with 7 years less training. I've also figured if horses are your job you dont kneed load of monay to look after them, so now Im going to do a animal managment degree and see where it goes. In my dreams i would love to be a proffesional carriage driver, but to do that id probably have to move elsewhere in europe where to is alot more popular to make any money, and i dont like the idea of that, alothough i plan to move to America soon.

Wanted to be either a large animal vet (not clever enough) or mounted police officer. Actually got to have a crack at the latter but job politics and my ineffectiveness as a rider put paid to it. I wasn't sorry a year later when they scrapped the department anyway LMAO and got another, much better specialist post.
