that really is fascinating. I had a breeder friend who's father has been saying similar for decades upon decades. Why would you take a horse off the track that has broken down and breed from it? Surely its (not in all cases) its likely to pass that weakness on?

I wonder if this has an impact on that racecourse that is having issues with horses breaking down in training, would love to see if there is a correlation...

Its also interesting on the medication front too. Its done because its needed and its needed because of breeding right?

Is it not what we are doing to a lot of animals we breed whether it’s horses, dogs or farm animals. We breed for certain characteristics at the expense of the animal on the whole. We have a lot to answer for.

Very distressing article, but like it says, money talks, money money, no thought to the extended life of the animal.

I'm interested in a few boodlines in USA and I plan to buy from any auction. but when I check previous years auctions in Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton, I can not see too many broodmares from these lines. I'm hopeless

1 - In reality lines (bertrando / skywalker /relaunch / in reality) or (honour and glory / relaunch / in reality)
in realty is an american stallion but unfortunately limited number of ''broodmare sires'' from this line even in USA.

2- princequillo lines ( meadowlake)
hard to find !!! limited numbers of broodmares even in usa and probably nobody want to sell, actually you can find a lot of princequilo line sires on the earth but some of them sold to Australia in 90's and 80's
could you please check this link below? most of them runs, probably less than %10 unraced horses. that is a perfect result for TB breeding.

https://www.pedigreequery.com/progeny/meadowlake

progeny of bertrando : https://www.pedigreequery.com/bertrando
progeny of meadowlike : https://www.pedigreequery.com/meadowlake

today we can not reach this kind of broodmares easily because Americans and Canadians always mixed danzigs, mr prospectors and storm cats in last 20 years, danzig inbreeding is another disaster. But IMO if a lot of horses have fatal injuries in a country, we can not judge only breedeers and pedigree (mating) experts.

- triple crown legs (preakness, kentucky, belmont) running in just 34 days! between 4th may and 8th june
- they use a lot of drugs
- you can not see any good ''cool down'' and ''warm up'' process in North american racetracks.
- a horse stay in stall for 23½ hours in a routine day.
- half educated horsepeople
- ok, maybe hard to believe but average older horse distance is 4½ -5 furlongs in North America.
