this is my horse, i have owned him for nearly two years. I bought him as a happy hacker and the first year was awful. Last year was brilliant and i think we have sorted our differences out now. Im not really a horsey person as such..ie i never had lessons or my own pony as a child . I worked with them a lot then took 25 years off. After giving up smoking this year i thought next year i would like to loose enough weight to wear cream jodphurs... and do a fun ride with my horse. I don t mix with other horse owners so would like to know..... will me and my neddy get laughed at ?!!!!

why on earth would you be laughed at? You look great together. He looks wide awake and ready to go. Go on, who is he and whats his story? I like him.

Why should you get laughed at ? You look fine :)

At a fun ride he may get more exicited than he would on a hack, so be prepared for this. Does he get strong would be benefit from a running martigale on the day ? Are you intending to go round the ride with a friend ? That would help you to pace yourself.
He is very orange !! I like him ;)

This is chesters story.... i had wanted my own horse for all my life. So i rang one of the worst dealers in the country (i have since found out) off i went and took a shine to chester because he stuck his head in my chest. I rode him that day and he was as good as gold. The dealer was delighted at my stupidity and rubbed his hands in glee. When he arrived home it became obvious he was not a novice ride... and he had a particular habit of bucking. I was very rusty and it got nasty. On one day he threw me off three times ... i stayed on the fourth but cant remember it as i was concussed. At this stage we dicided to go back to ground work and basics. We havent looked back. He is approx 16 and i have tried to trace him on here... his passport is just a fairy tale. He is currently having the winter off as i work full time and it takes me all my time to look after him. for the last year i have had no real issues with him.... but every now and again you have to reinforce your authority or he takes the mickey.
thanks for the nice remarks i cant be objective because of my rose tinted specs!!

yes had wondered if i should change the tack around a bit!!! ive got a lovely lady roped into riding with me... so she can phone for the ambulance!!!! I have taken the cowards way out and bought an australian stock saddle..just in case he reverts to the bucking again, :-) I think he will get excited so will look into the martingale.

He looks lovely. Don't woory you don't need to wear beige jods to do sponsored rides, any colour is fine! And I'm sure no one would laugh at you, you look like a lovely pair :)

What a thoroughly nice sort of chap. You can see he has bags of personality and you look great on board. Good luck with him ( I gave up smoking 3 years ago and put on 3 stone) I have been challenged to do a hunter trial in April on a hunt horse so have to lose it and get riding properly again as it is easier to let the daughter do all the riding!!!!

What a lovely story and a fab looking horse. Take him out and have loads of fun. Btw, I don't think a Stock Saddle is chickening out, I think it's sensible! Nothing wrong with feeling safe and confident IMO.....

I think he is fabulous looking horse. Hes an amazing colour and looks fun to ride. No one will laugh at you but many may look because he is stunning.

wow thanks folks ... i feel all sort of bouyed up now. Thankyou so much for the comments, he is a real character but at first he was really aloof and most definately in the beginning a mans horse.... that has changed due to me being his main source of food in the last two years. i had to really pluck my courage up to post this thread so once agian thankyou

Beautiful horse, you both look great! Good luck with the fun ride, I'd love to do one too.

I never consider myself a "proper" horsey person either, didn't start riding until I was around 13 and owned my first horse at the age of 23, prefer not to mix with the very very horsey types except saying hello at the yard!

hes gorgeous, he reminds me with that cheeky glint in his eye of my horse in my sig, a bit like yours he is big and naughty, so pleased youve worked through it with him, good luck with your plans for the new year :D

Maybe it's because I'm used to my little horse, but he looks HUGE!!

He is rather beautiful though, and there is no reason at all why you would be laughed at! :D

He is a lovely looking chap, a real credit to you and well done for sticking with him. He looks a lot younger than 16 too, I hope you have years of fun with him now you have sorted your differences :)

Ohhh he is gorgeous!!
I do LOVE a ginger!
Well done for how you've come on with him, and enjoy this year to come! :)

You both look really happy in the pic :) really lovely.
I dont see why you would get laughed at?! and even if you did who cares, they will be the ones with the problem. Go along and have fun! :D

Wow! What a stunner :D

I have a soft spot for chestnuts. I didn't get my first horse until I was 45 and I've been on lots of sponsored rides and an endurance training rides - no one has laughed at me (not that I've noticed anyway) and I've had loads of fun, and I'm more of a pony squisher with my 14.3 mare.

How big is your fella, he looks huge?

he is 16 1 he possibly looks bigger because of the background

Of course you won't get laughed at! Why would they laugh at you? I did my first endurance fun ride last year and I felt the same as you as I thought my 20 year old, with all his old injuries, lumps and bumps would look silly with all the young horses. It was great fun and I would do it again.
It sounds like you've done really well with him - you say you're not a horsey person, but I think you must be really to have taken on something which has been such hard work - only a true horseperson would have done that!
Enjoy your ride. x

You both look fab. I have a simular story and returned to riding after 25yrs. We went on a fun ride together last summer. Was great fun but OMG never thought he had so much energy. Took my first jumps if I was ready or not. Definatley recommend going with a friend if possible. I now know why they say hunting helps improve your riding. Its an expereince I will never forget and my fella loved it. Looks like you should have fun together your guy looks well up for it in the pic. We're looking forward to the next one
