I could really do with some advice on this :/ I started uni 2 weeks ago, and i was really looking forward to it. Now i'm finding that i hate it :( i've made some good friends, but don't like my course or living in the city, and keep counting the days till the weekend so i can go home. I had the best summer ever working with horses and would love to do something like that. The more i think of it, the more i want to do it. I'm thinking of getting a job as a groom somewhere and seeing how it goes from there. The thing is, i don't want to let anyone down by dropping out of uni, but at the same time i don't see the point in staying there and wasting my money when i'd rather be doing something else. I really really need advice on this as i'm utterly confused about what to do.

Hot choc to everyone who helps :)

I cannot really answer for you but do feel you should give it at least until xmas perhaps. It can take time to adjust.
What are you studying and why did you chose this course?

All I can say is don't be hasty, whatever you decide x

2 weeks is really no time at all. You are quite possibly homesick and need to give yourself a little longer to settle in.

It's great that you have made some friends, but you probably don't yet feel as comfortable with them as you do with your 'home' friends.

Did you choose the course you are doing? or were you encouraged to do it. When I did my degree I didn't like all of the subjects, but others I did enjoy. Maybe you will move on to other modules later that you might prefer?

Why not have a chat with your course leader/tutor - have they assigned you a 'mentor' that you can talk this sort of thing through?

Perhaps try to stay there for the weekend and join in the social life?

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would give yourself a bit more time to settle in to uni life, I felt the same when I started at uni but stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Get through the first term and see how you feel then. Are you enjoying your course?

I kinda know how you feel, I have just started college and absaloutely hated boarding at first. I would phone my mum crying then sometimes get emotional in front of teacher :o and i would always count down the days to the weekend :)

Now i DON'T love boarding :p but i enjoy it and mix with people and it a great laugh. I think i have settled in well as i am doing something i enjoy HORSES! I am doing the breeding course so i am always learning new things.

I would stay at Uni till Xmas and if you still not happy then think about leaving. Hope you ok. I am now on my 5th week and then got next week left and then to Wednesday then 1/2 term

I'm studying ancient history, which i chose because i thought it would be interesting, but after sitting through lectures for 2 weeks, i hate it. I thought it would be my kind of thing, but apparently not.

Hiya I would stick with Uni for a bit longer.
When i first went away i really didnt like it and went home every weekend ( which doesn't really help by the way!) however after a while i settled in and had an amazing time and got a decent degree.
But i understand everyone is different and i wouldn't worry about letting anyone down just do what makes you happy :) I hope that you are ok and start enjoying Uni more :)

Okay, I can see why you might find the subject matter a little dry. How about asking at your Uni if you can switch courses, that is sometimes an option.

But before leaping off to do another course, have a real good think about the subject and what you might do with it once you have graduated, at least that way it gives you a purpose for working hard if you can see an 'end goal'.

Stick with it. I hated first year but enjoying 2nd year way more :)
What uni are you at? I am at preston, pm me if you want.
I still go home at weekends though to ride!

you need to decide what you like and want to study... you have only got a few weeks before the shut off for transfers! Also where abouts are you? can you find some friends where you can get a horsey fix or something?

Two weeks is very soon to give up. There should people you can speak to, I expect you are not the only person thinking like this. Quite a few people switch courses, so maybe think about this if you really hate the course, and as it is early days then you won't have too much catching up to do.

Give uni until christmas at least and see how you feel then.

The thing is, i hate the course, it's so dull and i'm finding it really hard to get the motivation to go in. The more i think about it, the more i want to do something with horses. Not sure what exactly, but i can figure that out. What does being a working pupil involve?

If you want to leave its up to you ! Don't feel pressured to stay, i did and now i just feel that i totally wasted 4 years of my life ill never get back!

That's what i'm thinking. I don't want to waste 3 years of my life doing something i hate and getting into huge amounts of debt, but don't want to let anyone down either :( Grrrr... why is life so confusing

2 weeks is too soon to quit anything... discuss it with your tutor and ask if there is anything else you can do... if you work with horses then the likelihood is you'll struggle to own your own... A degree can open lots of other jobs up for you.

I'd give it til christmas at least

Hi, im a groom, i left school and went straight out to work, i do love mu job and have had a great time over the years doing different things..... But now im very close to getting in 30's:eek: and have a daughter i really wish id got some different qualifications under my belt as when im older im not sure i want to still be out in the wind and rain. Even if you switch courses i really wouldnt rush into leaving and having horses as your only option, maybe get the uni stuff out the way and the qualification then go and be a travelling groom for a competition yard (absolutly brillient the overseas parties are amazing;)) then as you get older and working with horses full time gets you down (it will i promise) then youve got some fall back. :)
