H is a sturdy beast so am not overly worried, but problem is he is out with a younger TB and the TB is playful to say the least.

The TB has pulled out most of H's tail at the base through his rug. I put a new rug on him and the next day it has come in with a small hole ! the rugs I dont mind, but his tail, he is bald in the middle of it and it looks like it hurts. He is now more alert of me being near it - not nasty in anyway though

I have thought of putting a bandage on it but can tail bandages stay on 24/7 ?

Dont get me wrong horses are horses and I dont show him, but it looks painful aswell as ugly !

What would you do ?

We have this problem at the yard where i work, youngsters pulling each others tails out (specifically one line of ponies!). Try putting some nasty tasting water one his tail - I think NAF do one for cribing and chewing - this is an alternative to cribox so wont be sticky etc.

NAF do a nasty tasting spray that you can put on rugs and bandages to stop horses biting at them.

Do not leave a tail bandage on as this can cause massive problems, there should be a thread somewhere on here recently with some nasty pics after a tail bandage was left on.
