Bit of history, Badger did a bit of a check ligament injury 4/5 years ago out hunting, he was never really lame but his leg came up a bit, got it scanned, he couldn't find much but was sure from what I said it must be his check ligament so said to box rest with walking out etc. I kept him in for about 2 months but then it seemed a bit silly because there was nothing seemingly wrong with him (he also gets colic when in 24/7) so I started turning him out and slowly brought him back into work. All fine until now..

We had a fabulous but slightly crazy last day of the hunting season on Saturday. Leg has come up again. :-( He was a bit stiff all round on Sunday but seems sound now. Still slightly up / slightly warm on inside of tendon sheath, more towards the top.

I'm not going to shut him in again because he will get colic. Would you get him scanned anyway? Turn him away for a bit? WWYD?

If it were me, I would rough off and turn away now, and let Dr Green and time work their magic. Once he's had a good bit of time out, I'd bring back in, scan at that point, and if all well, bring him back into work. A horse with niggling soft tissue issue like that would get a lot more walking on the roads to harden his legs up before next season, and as it's a re-injury, I'd start being a bit cautious about hunting in heavy going/going out on fast/jumpy days. I'd also ice the legs after every day out, regardless of whether there's heat or not.

I would turn him away to get rid of any swelling or bruising and then if he didnt recover get him scanned and make sure he was on the mend I would be less inclined to hunt in heavy going too. Dr green and time are the best healers
