"WELSH SECTION D filly, 9yrs old, chestnut colour, four white socks. 14.2HH, Well handled, kind friendly totally unspoilt. Ideal for showing/riding etc. Lives in or out. Not broken hence £850 ovno"

I have rung up (or my friend has as vodaphone decided to go awol again

) and she was bought as a yearling to be broken for their girl when she was old enough. The girl lost interest and the mare was kept as a companion for their other horse. They have now lost their grazing hence selling. They say she is very quiet, good with farrier and to load, basically a darling. Also registered. Apperently never had an ill day in her life (would still have her vetted though!) What do we think? Good buy or dont touch with proverbial bargepole?

850 not much to waste and if it goes a bit wrong teach her some more manners and sell her for more but by the sounds of it she sounds a sweety, i would give it a whirl

fabulous, going to see her tomorrow - very excited though I refuse to let my heart rule my head though!
Of course will keep you updated, with pics if I remember to bring camera

If she is really spoilt as well as unbacked you will have a lot of long time habits to change, so I'd see it as a big plus if all the basic handling is in place and she is nice and respectful from the ground :-)

Very good point thankyou! I would be very put off if she is bolshy or bargy, I have a very good feeling about her but am totally prepared to be disapointed!
My dad wormed it out of me this morning that I am going to see not only a mare but a chestnut mare!!

He's not happy...

I would just be a wee bit wary of anyone who describes a 9yo as a 'filly' - they may well be nice genuine people but this suggests they are not very knowledgeable! So I would not be inclined to trust anything they told me, not because they'd be lying, but because they simply might not have a clue.
