I have had the little TB on individual turnout and he is a misreable as hell - so after he has built his strength back up he has gone back in the 4 acre field with one other - a mare - a young mare..... he has been in the field now for his 3rd day.... and in he comes with a kick.

Now its not a really bad kick but I am just so worried that he will get seriously hurt - he is 13 and just never seams to learn when he is annoying other horses.

What would you do?

From bitter experience, individual turn out. My horse was the same, always wants to play and canter. They all used to hoon about. He also would break down any fences separating them. Then he suffered a near life ending kick and has been on rehab for 9 months, he is never, ever going to be turned out with another horse! Its much easier on the stress levels, and they dont loose so many shoes :)
He is turned out right besides the others, but since 4 minths box rest he cares more about grass than playing now!

Individual turnout. I feel bad as he lives out 24/7 but he's an idiot. Been kicked in the head and had stitches, bites my other horse, wrecks other horses rugs, takes their muzzles off etc. He's just one big hazard!

I'd put him in with either or both of my horses. They get on with every horse, even the ones that can't cope with living in a herd. They have often baby sat horses like yours.
Its sometimes just a question of pairing a horse like yours with the right companion.

Find him one as equally annoying to live with. With no shoes. Mine is exactly the same and is damn lucky my old mare is a gentle tolerant soul. He means no hard but he's just a pain in the ass.

It's extremely difficult my TB broke a foreleg with his previous owner because he does not know how to behave in the field he pestered an older mare until she kicked him he's lucky if not end up in a trip to the kennels.
He's better now he's used to a lot of turnout and he's settled with two friends but one I own I would not dare turn him out with .
I am happy after having very little freedom in his youth he can now enjoy the company of others in the field i love to see him lying with his friends on a nice day however it was a risk getting him to this stage .
Perhaps you could get an old pony ( shoeless) or a trusted horse for a two horse turnout Fatty taught J how to be turned out he's very placid .
I know exactly your dilemma but I don't have an answer for you.
