I'm trying to get my youngster some show experience. I'm a tad nervous as well so don't want to fry my brain either. He's done really well in hand (if a little bonkers at times) but at our local riding club they have a tack and turnout class.

Do you know what it involves? It says no ridden show required.

You normally present yourself and your horse to the judge at the start of the day, and they literally mark you on how well turned out you and the horse are, cleanness of tack etc. You don't normally have to do more than just stand there!

You will walk round as a group for a minute and then the judge will either pull you in in the order you are already in or in preference to his or her first impressions. Then the judge will pull you out and go over you with a fine tooth comb and then you will return back to your line. Then will either pull you out from where you are by nodding at you, calling your number etc or you may all have to go back out and walk round and then they will pull you in.
Good class when introducing a horses first ridden class however it will test the horses patience as you will be stood about a bit, if you think your horse may get a littl restless then I'd make sure you are at the end of the line so he does not become a nuisance to others plus you have room to turn him in little circle etc.

Used to do loads of these a few years back and in the main you do as Kenzo says, walk round in a group, stand in line, get inspected, walk back round, and finish class. Some shows do it the other way as per Diamond where you just present yourself to the judge in a corner of the showground somewhere and get marked and a few hours later go and collect trophy. Used to do them with my little old show jumping mare who injured herself and was never sound at trot again. She loved going to shows and despite having been a very fizzy mare when jumping would stand for hours in a line up nodding off. It was nice to have somethign she could still do where the lame in trot didn't matter. Have fun with it.
