For me it is cheaper to pay the postage than drive 30 miles and pay a higher price at nearest supplier local to me. I get 10 litres of oil and 3 kgs of sulphur which last my two about 2 1/2 to 3 months as we have gross mud and I need to oil up every 10 days. Mine also have a fair amount of feather to cover.
For those with hairies - and this also works on the less well endowed, mix oil and sulphur so it looks like a thickshake and paint on with a paint brush from knee/hock down to the end of the hair. Give a quick rub to get it well in and forget for 10 - 14 days depending on how bad your mud is.
Make sure white gold gets nowhere near it - goes black if you do but yellow gold is fine.
P&S prevents mites, grease, mudfever etc. Mud slips off if the legs/tail/mane are kept well oiled.
Avoid washing out the legs with hairies as much as possible - this causes more problems than it solves. Mine are left from late September to April with only the ends of the feather cleaned with a little cold water if really clogged up. They may look really wet and dirty, but part the top layer of hair and all underneath is snowy white and dry.
Since using P&S I have not had any of the skin problems associated with feathered horses and P&S kept an arab free from mudfever for the first time in years.
In summer if you don't use oil, every 2 weeks wet the legs and rub in a couple of handfuls of sulphur to prevent mites and keep the skin healthy.
Pig oil is also great on mane and tails for shine and a cheap detangler and a splash in the rinse water when bathing gives a great show shine coat. I also use it instead of baby oil for faces at shows - attracts less dust.
