What do you do with rosettes?

Silly question really but I am moving house soon and wondered what you guys do with all your rosettes...?
I have two massive boxes of them. I decided I was only going to keep my 1sts and my Championship rosettes and chuck the rest away but it seems like such a waste. However Im moving back in with my Dad so won't have much room and somethings got to give.... what do you think? Is there a charity I could give them to?

I generally throw them away unles they are really special for some reason.
Ones from keysoe get exchanged for a cup of coffee

I keep mine till they fall apart or the dog eats them! worked to hard to throw them out & they mean to much, didn't think they did until now. (My old mare is in her last summer) sentimentality!

Theyre already in my loft and Dad really doesnt have much room so I will have to chuck a lot away. I wondered if any kids could use them for something? Id rather give them away than chuck them away.

Oh i keep all of mine! they are on a board in my Kitchen, and then Bear's 2 1st's from M+M are up in my front room!

Call me sad LOL but my front room is a shrine to my horses!

Keep them! I have about a dozen shoe boxes of the things stashed under my bed with the exception of my firsts which are on proud display

I keep meaning to get them out and give them a good iron. My mum used to write on the back of all of them the horse, date & class for momentum so it's a good trip down memory lane for me when I get them out!

Well thats the thing, my rosettes from Benji make me so proud, but do I really need to keep 4ths, 5ths, 6ths etc.... Im not as proud of them as my champ rosettes! Not bothered about my Connie rosettes as I hardly won any and Victors tend to be 1sts anyway so I will be keeping them!

I might sell the ones I dont want on ebay.... but would rather give them to charity if I can. Since I will be living with Dad I cant dictate what goes where unfortunately, my house is a shrine to my horses!

I cant be sentimental unfortunately. I will see what Dad thinks as he might want to put some on display - he's very proud of the horses. But Ive decided, anything below a 3rd, unless it has sentimental value, is going on ebay unless someone has a better idea of where they could go??

I gave mine to my mum, who gave them out to her class of 5 year olds when they'd done a good piece of work

They really liked the 'specials'

Theres some really good ideas there...
Im moving as Im going back to uni to do a PGCE so maybe I could give them to the kids I will be teaching in the future! LOL or my cousin who is a primary school teacher. I will also contact the local riding school and see what they think. I dont tend to write on them any more so the majority of them will be blank. Thanks guys

I'm in the same situation. In my flat, my 1st were up on the wall and the rest went in a big faith boot bag. Now we have moved OH, doesn't really want them up on the walls, so I might get a board to just lean against the wall in the new spare room. I wouldn't want to throw them out as even some of the 5th and 6th mean a lot, like my first time round bigger jumps, first time inter area, a particularly lovely day, or somehting like that.

If you need to get rid, can you make up 1-6 sets and give them to a riding school or local club or something so they can reuse them? Most of mine are from the same club, so they already have their logo in the middle.
(although i write the date & class on the back of them)

keep them if you can. I just cleared out my loft and found a box of twenty or thirty year-old rosettes. even the specials and the clear round ones seem special now!

I am so sad that all mine are up in my office on boards. I had a huge gap from childhood pony stuff to competing on a coloured when I was in my 40s, and then getting my horse 8 year ago. Every single rosette I got was an achievement and I am not ashamed to say that I put them all up, and from time to time look at each one and remember the occasion and the buzz I got. My mare has been lame for 18 months and will probable not be rideable again, it makes me sad as we did so well. I will never chuck my rosettes, they mean too much to me!

Keep all the good ones - 1sts, any especially pretty ones and ones that have a special meaning. My mum still has all of mine, I keep meaning to ask for some of the good ones back so I can put them up on the wall of the study along with a few photos and things. My mum still has hers from when she was 14 and they're up on her kitchen wall along with mine, it's all quite sentimental really!

Try local riding schools for giving away the rest, they will usually be quite grateful for them as they can give them away in lessons and on loan-a-pony days, little shows etc.

My dad has had an idea - let me know what you think?
He's a photographer and has said he could take a photo of ALL the rosettes Im going to get rid of, and I could put the photo with all the firsts and trophies and stuff. ??

I have kept every single once since 1965 (!). Still write on the back the horse's name, the class and any comments. Sometimes a lot more effort goes into a 6th than a 1st, depending on the level of competition. No suggestions what to do with the ones you can't keep but do find a nice home for them.

I've made rosette boards covered in perspex or plastic and they all hang in Rosie's stable.

Inka's used to hang in his stable until he pulled them all down and ate them!!

I think I've still got the first rosettes I ever won, donkeys years ago!
I had bags of the things up in the loft too, and spent a pleasant hour or so reminicing about them.
Eventually I threw away the ones that I couldn't remember anything about, and kept the special ones.
It's amazing how much effort, time and money goes into that little bit of ribbon and card.

Yeh perhaps I should do that instead of just keeping firsts - only throw away the ones dont remember anything about. Good idea.
Im out every weekend and tend to come back with rosettes (aaaargh sounds big headed but its true) so I get a bit overrun with them!!

I keep my rosettes but I work at an inner city riding school and we get donations of old rosettes. We can re-use some of them but most of them get used in arts and crafts activities. We get the kids to make new centre pieces, they normally draw their favourite pony and write their name on it. They love it and either keep them or put them on their favourite ponies stable. It's a good way of re-cycling them and much better than throwing them out!
