as title really what do you feed you horses and why?
just being nosy really feeding is a bit of a mind field and everyone has different views.
my horse is in medium work nearly 5 yr old and is laid back and does not waste energy lol he was overweight but is now fine has no trouble keeping condition and sometime wander if i am feeding right

1 x small scoop of Falcon Fibre Care and 1 x small scoop of Spillers High Fibre Nuts - twice a day.

Very, very little starch or sugar + Lots of fibre. All the vits and mins a native needs.

Native horse on light work (hacking).

I feed happy hoof & low cal balancer. Speedi beet in the winter for extra fibre. The low cal as it has all the vitamins etc he needs. Happy hoof as it has biotin garlic & mint so don't have to buy separately.

I have a 5 year old native who is a very good doer.

Ad-lib hay with some oat straw mixed in.

He wouldn't get any hard feed ideally, but all the other horses on his yard are fed and the Y/O feeds them all - so stop him kicking the door down - he gets a handful of Hi-Fi Light, a sprinkling of high fibre nuts and a general purpose vitamin and mineral supplement.

He has a small nut ball at night with a small amount of high fibre nuts.

He is light work - generally schooled once or twice a week, lunged or long lined once and hacked the rest of the time.

she has (in the winter) two feeds of 1x stubbs scoops of horsehage cherry chaff (the help with coat quality and it is also quite a weight gaining chaff.
1x hickstead pasture mix. because its yummy and it is quite fattening.
1x sugarbeet. Because its yummy, fattening and with a bit of zing!

As you have probably gathered.. my horse is not a good doer. lol.

Lou x

1 scoop of fast fibre
1 scoop of chaff
half scoop of pasture mix
codlavine

this is because - he drops weight really quickly and looks neglected if your not careful, because he eat fast and because his feet arnt very good :o

In winter (in night/out day) my 16.2 TBx (weighs ~620kg) gets Bailey's Lo Cal (600g) with cooked full-fat linseed meal (300g) and HiFi (1kg), plus ad-lib hay. Does great on it and has good feet, supple joins and the best shine on his coat of all the horses on the yard (all 40 of them!)

Edited to say, reason I feed this diet is that its the cheapest and best diet for my horse that Ive found.

flax/linseed oil, magnesium and hoof supplement. All mixed in with fast fibre. My mares a native so all the rest of vits and mins she gets from the grass.

Ours both get alfa oil, speedibeet and lo-cal balancer. The amounts of each are varied according to their weight and workload.
Tom then gets superflex, and cider vinegar. He also gets a calmer when Ron's going to be out.
Ron only gets electrolytes added.
they also get adlib haylage.

Fany- 16 yo Ardennes mare who is an excellent doer gets haylage and a few carrots/ swede/ apples etc. No bucket, much to her disgust!

Captain - 17and a half yo KWPN gelding who is a poor doer with a slight cereal allergy he has A&P C&C, FibreGY chaff, Speedi beet lots of carrots etc. Cornescruscine and Coligone. Plenty of excellent homegrown haylage. I have tried other feeds and they send him loopy if they have too much starch, C&C works for him.

My 19 y/o ISH is fed Alfa A-Oil and Conditioning Cubes + additional oil.

He is not fed during summer, and at most in the winter will have a scoop of each. I chose these to keep weight on him as he is prone to dropping it quickly (ad lib haylage too). Also, I put him on a (pasture) mix once - never again!!!!!

Out 24/7 unrugged, 16.3hh shire x

1 scoop hifi lite
1/2 scoop fast fibre

Am and pm - and we've just started him on a wedge of hay am and pm also. He's a good doer, could just have hay TBH but he strops if he doesn't get fed with the others! Like hifi lite and fast fibre is brilliant stuff xx

My 26yr old wb x tb (out by day in by night) has:

1 Stubbs scoop of Spillers Conditioning Fibre
1 Stubbs Scoop of Badminton Veteran Nuggets
3/4 Stubbs scoop of Speedi-beet
Pink powder
Garlic
Senior vits and min

and has this twice a day and has 2 huge nets of hay over night. He struggles to hold weight but is doing fantastically on this.

3yr old Dartmoor x Shetland (also out by day in by night) has:

1 handful Happy hoof
1/4 Stubbs scoop fibre cubes
Vit and min supplement
garlic

She only has this in mornings as they have just moved onto winter grazing and i feel she doesnt need 2 feeds! She could go without hard feed as is a very good doer but she needs her vits and mins (eats soil without it!)! she also has 3kgs soaked hay over night.

two of mine have allen and page old faithfuls feed with hot bran mashes. i know a lot of people dont think much of bran but one of mine had colic and its a good laxative :)
