Just pondering what to feed fat boy, he'll be in at night and out during the day on poor grazing. I'm thinking happy hoof in his decahedron toy, fast fibre and hay. He'll be ridden 3/4 times a week if possible xx

I'd soak his hay to get rid of as many of the calories as possible. Make sure you rinse the hay well after you've soaked it though. And feed him a low calorie balancer. With a restricted diet they do not get all the vitamins and minerals that they need and this is a way of ensuring those requirements are met.

Don't over rug him either so that he uses up some calories moving around to keep warm.

My lad gets the same all year...couple of handfuls of dengie healthy hooves to put his all round vit/min supplement into twice a day. Other than that he is on sparse grass in the day and in at night on hay.

My boys also get the same feed all year round; 2 cups of Baileys Lo-Cal Balancer and a handful of chaff although I do increase the chaff slightly over the winter from a handful to 1/2 a scoop. They get hay four times per day if they are in 24/7 due to limited turnout or if they are turned out during the day they get hay 3 times per day.

My girl gets 5hours grazing in a muzzle and 1 scoop of Happy Hoof morning and night. I also soak her hay for 12 hours.

I weigh all her feed and I've worked it on 1.5% of her body weight and she's lost weight.

As the grazing will be poor def a good idea to put him on a general purpose supplement like Global Herbs Globalvite or a low calorie balancer like Blue Chip Lami Lite. This will make sure he still gets all the vits and mins he needs without having to feed lots. My friends mare is on lami-lite and does really well on it

my fat welsh cob mare gets hay when in, grass when out in a grazing muzzle as we have brilliant grass at yard and acres of the stuff!! she has handful of hifi original, and equilibra 500 balancer, also her supplements...x
