Fells .... Live out All year round Hay if its particularly cold !
Have a headcollar on, taught to lead and if keeping for a broodmare just left alone
Depends what it looks like ... if its going to be shown then would handle a bit more and get used to standing in however dont tend to do very much with them at that age !!! Generally left to mature and start doing things as 3 4 or 5yo depending how many there are and how long they take to mature
If the wee fellas in for anything he will get a few carrots and a handful of chaff - nothing else. He is out 24/7 with as much hay as he can eat and doesn't wear a rug. Under all the mud he is a wee tubby. He is a piebald welsh cob x
Mine (a trad cob) gets a handful of Happy Hoof with a mug of Spillers Grow and Win, no more than that- he'll be 2 in the spring and has been on this feed since he was 6 months and it's really suited him. He also gets plenty of soaked meadow hay.
He's out in the day as much as possible- weather permitting as my turnout is limited in the winter as is clay-he's in at night- when i move in the nect few months though he'll be out 24/7 until next winter as better for them i think to be moving about when they are young.
I was just curious to know who feeds really. Mine is out 24/7 in a well sheltered 7 acre field with 2 friends, theres plenty of grass and when the snow comes they get ad-lib hay. I don't give him hard feed, he looks well and has a super thick coat!
Two darties :]
They were out 24/7 all summer, in during nights this winter and they get a haynet at night with a scoop of chaff and a couple of carrots each.
They're both well handled and lead well, good to catch, have their feet trimmed etc :]
ONLY problem is the current mud fever situation which means for the last few days they've been in most of the day whilst trying to treat it
I have a section A colt. He is fed on Alfa A, beetpulp, stud mix and a little bit of conditioner. He is out during the day and in at night, both with a rug on.
my dales yearling(two this may) is out 24/7.grass and once a day feed of rounds scoop of hoofkind and round scoop of sugarbeet.with haylege if snow on ground too thick.unrugged.
gets brushed every few weeks.feet done when farrier out and not much else.i dont like to ver handle youngsters, she already knows how to lead, load, travel in trailer/lorry.
