My yearling filly I placed a deposit on prior to lock down is due to be delivered to me next week (this has been planned for months, I have my own land etc so I think we will be ok to go ahead during lock down as current owners have said they just can't keep her for any longer due to grazing issues).

I have had horses as young as 3 years old but this is my first yearling. I've been looking into feed options for her? I've heard good things about D+H suregrow, but was wondering if anyone else had recommendations? She's in relatively good shape, just looking for something to give her a little extra than just grass.

How about Thunderbrooks chaff and Equilibra 500 supplement. I have had very good results with this feed for young horses. If she has good grazing through the summer she should be fine on this. Obviously as winter approaches she will need hay. Good luck with her, what breed is she?
 
Suregrow hay and linseed all the way! In winter i fed my boy a mix of alfalfa nuts grass nuts and beetpulp with readigrass alongside the recommended measure of Suregrow and 100g of linseed twice a day. I mix all the nuts together In a big bin and soak a big scoop and it does four or five feeds and last about 3/4 months so cheap and easy. He was getting between 15-20kgs of hay daily as well and he came out of winter looking like this. He’s a Welsh D standing about 14.3/15hh at his butt.

Now he’s been moved onto equimins tip-top and D&H Youngstock cubes over summer as he’s not a stud or colt so the Suregrow won’t be needed as he’s two.

The grazing isn't super rich or lush but there's plenty there for her! We have hay ready for her!

She was sold to me as sports horse x cob - she is a big girl already!

yep keep it simple and low starch. Good grass is obviously most important and decent hay in the winter. This is my chap, 2yo ISH fed on that diet, rubbish (non existent) grass where we were... we’ve just moved them to somewhere with better grazing all year round, so hopefully I’ll be able to keep him on just the balancer. I prefer to keep my youngsters on the leaner side as they grow.

 
Nothing! I tried her on two different (and often recommended) youngstock balancers post-weaning/as a yearling, and stopped both as they sent her loopy. Some of them do need a little extra, but others do best on grass - and hay when necessary - year round.
 
Mine has Suregrow and hay in the winter and just grass in spring/summer/autumn. He has kept up steady growth and the grass is really good. He also seems to be a really good doer and is currently much fatter than I would like :oops:

This is what I'm worried about! I dont want to give her more energy than she needs ?
 
Grass, ad-lib hay (as restricted grazing), and a handful of molasses free Dengie happy hoof to give her some vits and minerals (but only really because the others get it). Don't want her to grow to quickly or get fat. She looks perfect at the moment - a little bit under perfect body condition score and lovely shiny coat.
 
My 3 are on grass topped up with haylage at the minute. Over winter they had a bit of baileys stud balancer. 2 x yearling & 3yo WB.9C0ABB97-07C2-4B7C-8B66-928DDE53A595.jpeg
