i currently feed my mare and gelding on a cool mix and alpha a.
and my yearling a chop with mare and youngstock mix(phase 2)

i dampen them down as i dont feed sugar beet in the warmer weather..
my gelding seems to be holding his weight fine.
but the mare has put on weight slowly since i have had her.
she could do with a few more pounds on as shes still a bit ribby .

. but with limited grazing i thought alpha a would be suitable...

We used the alpha a oil on our tb to help maintain weight, or add oil to the diet. He also got conditioning cubes which also helped keep the weight on him

1 slice of hay at 6 am, turn out on grass for 3 to 4 hours at 7am then all in due to the heat. At 4pm a large slice of hay then for all but one half a k of mix, a slobbering of SB, 60 g of ground soya, cider v, salt and a dash of soya oil. The one boy who is 35 year old TB gets 1k of Dobsons oldie mix at lunch time and the above for tea-he also has hay ad lib. Every time my vet comes he nags me regarding their weight-they are TOO FAT for his taste

Anyway, most horses are overfed for what they do and a lot of owners are throwing away money on feeds and sups which cost more than they are worth. We are being blinded by loads of nonsense stamped on feed bags and pretty publicity. Good basics and the intelligent use of feedstuffs is all that is required to have a nutritionally healthy horse. PS, Im using D and H to see if it really is any better than what Wesley has been eating-so far, no difference as far as I can see

Forgot to say-at 10 pm they all get another slice of hay. This is the summer diet, winter is different-they get boiled barley/linseed 3 times a week and hay is given 6 to 7 times a day. Mix is kept at half a k per day.

My two ponies get the same, ATM 24/7 turnout on a bare paddock which is strip grazed into another paddock which has very long grass! ( they get about 2 feet a day)Scoop of
SS Luciebix with a handful of Spillers High Fibre Cubes, twice a day

My TB is on 1/2 scoop calm & condition, 1/2 scoop alfa a oil plus various supps. Out during day on good grass with couple of slices good hay when in at night. May go out 24/7 at some point depending on feet.
Winter - full scoop c&c, full scoop alfa a oil twice day plus sugar beet if needed. plus supps. As much hay as will eat!

When i first got my ID X he was very underweight but it was winter and there was no grass so he got feeds twice a day of alfa a, chop and cool mix and big nets morning and evening. Dont know how long you've had her but slowly building their weight up is the best way.

i had her a year now but its been a slow process.
as she was so bad with having foal after foal after foal her body has just gone completely mad.
she has put some on and looks better for it but i would like a few more pounds on her ready for winter.

just been to the feed place and bought some alpha a oil..
cheers for all your help guys will show you piccys before and after in a few months
