Thanks everyone xxx

Horse (death and or loss of use), vets fees - various levels are available, tack, trailer, public liability. Ring NFU - they will talk you thro your options

Our horses are not insured for high values as this increases the premiums considerably but with the insurance comes vet cover, which is what everyone really wants. It's amazing how most vet bills come to under the excess amount though

Loss of use cover is invariably expensive & normally reserved for horses of relatively high value

Read the small print on your horse insurance if you have your tack covered. As ridiculous as it seems you will find that your saddle will not be covered. You have to mention your saddle specifically if you want it covered. Additionally you may find that if the tack room has 6 or more liveries in it your insurance for tack theft will be void....READ THE SMALL PRINT.

You may find that your tack will be covered on your house insurance if you have an all risks policy.

Lorry/Trailer insurance is separate.

NFU is a good insurer, I am with them & never had any problem with any claim. My house & contents are insured with them as well. Lorry is with Anthony D Evans.

Public Liability is ESSENTIAL everything else is up to you and what you can afford.

Public liability is the insurance that pays out if you were in an accident and injured someone else. These claims can easily run to hundreds of thousands and if you aren't insured the courts do have the power to do allsorts to get the money.

You may wish to have cover for loss of use or death or vets fees or theft etc but that is up to you weighing the risks against the costs.

We dont insure at all as have too many horses to make it worthwhile, so are self-insuring. We automatically have public liability insurance through BHS though - and our tack is covered by house insurance.

I have George insured with NFU for death and vets fees, but not loss of use (very expensive), I also have my tack insured with them. I also have BHS gold membership which gives me public liability insurance and is vital.
