What do you guys use for field shelters?

I have just bought a baby (21month Haflinger) and I am lucky enough to have an aunty with a nice bit of land and some company for her, but I need a field shelter for her section of the field, brand new is out of the question as the cost is just daft and she is only going to be there until she is old enough to go to breaking livery. Second hand ones are like gold dust. What do you have in the field for shelter?
 
Providing there are some hedges or trees etc to give a windbreak then I wouldn't really worry about a field shelter. A Haflinger is a pretty sturdy type.

We have 12 acres (split in to two fields) and in the winter ours are in the nearer field close to the stables etc. It is a hilly field but the bottom is sheltered by a thick hedge. Towards the top there are some very mature gorse bushes as well. We have provided them with a field shelter but in all honesty they do not spend an awful lot of time in there. In high winds they will usually stand down by the hedge or behind the back of our hay store. We did move our field shelter a couple of years ago to a different spot as they didn't use it much but they will now often stand on the old bit of concrete it used to stand on as this is bordered by the hedge.

I guess what i am saying is I wouldn't waste your money on a shelter unless you really have no natural shelter about at all. Our shelter is getting used a bit more now as we have put rubber matting in half of it and lay straw down and my baby (20 mth old) has decided it is his bed on a night and from looking at the state of him some mornings he must lie flat out in there! The rest of the time though you will find him out in all weathers and I don't rig him now - i did when it was snowing and minus 15 but don't think i will bother for the rest of the winter now as it's nearly over.

Although I did look into buying a mobile field shelter about 10 years ago, and almost had heart failure when I saw the prices! I mentioned what I was after to a local retired joiner and he made one for me, it's very professionally done, is on metal skids so it can be towed from field to field. He only charged me £500, and it's still going strong :)
