What do you look for in a lead and how much would you pay?

I used to do leatherwork and make leads/collars/ bridleware etc. Due to work possibly going dodgy and looking forward to Christmas I thought about doing some leatherwork to aim at the Christams market. I have a pattern of a lead that doubles up as a belt that is also adjustable as a lead so you can use it a bit like a training lead. They are made of top quality bridle leather with solid brass fittings

What is a reasonable price for a good quality lead?
p.s. I am not advertising just wondering if it would be a good idea to run off a few before christmas

depends but leather I'd pay between £20-30 maybe a bit more if it had my dogs name or contact info on to personalise it if just the lead more if lead and collar. Don't buy them very often though my leather leads have lasted forever. Pref the brass half checks for mine but I know a lot of people like flat.

Lanyards are quite popular especially if you add a whistle on it or can make the double attachment, one of the mutt has eaten the one I brought for OH so I'm looking for a new one it was a lovely platted two tone soft leather paid £35 for it. Not sure how easy they are to make but they are great xmas pressies.

I'm always on the look out for training leads, and us GSD people are always looking for long German-style show lines! Also tracking lines, tab lines/hand straps.
Can't really help with pricing, the last show lead I bought was only £15 as it was the end of the show day and they were trying to shift stuff.

We make and sell the leads you're talking about lizness. If you are speedy and can make them beautifully then there is money to be made. However, we are looking for someone to work for us from home, self employed. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

I make various leads etc when asked, alongside the usual saddlery.
Trouble is our raw material prices are going up all the time and we have to pass the costs on, people then go looking on the net and find cheap massed produced items, whether dog leads or saddlery and buy that instead, it's far from perfect but people still buy it!

I am desperate for a nice rolled version of the lead you describe!!! I have been desperate for one for ages ;)

I want comfort on the hand and durability so that I'm secure that the werewolf won't escape! I want a padded handle on a lead. Am I crazy that I don't want a leather lead? Our trainer advised one that can be halved in length by clipping the ring onto the trigger clip. There's no handle, just the lead to hold onto. I don't rate it.

Oddly, he also has leather choke chains that do look good and work well. People don't give you evils when you use it, apparently. We haven't got one, just a knacking big brass flat link chain.

Leather slip collars/leads are good. Ironically rope and leather slips are actually more severe as they run through the top ring quicker, but there ya go...they're not made of chain so they must be 'nicer'!
