Last year, around about May, my Highland was diagnosed with hind end lami (came in lame behind, pulses up etc). I was never convinced that it was but treated as lami regardless. Every time we got to the point where he was allowed turnout, pulses would come up virtually straight away even with him being muzzled. I was at my wits end and he ended up going to a grassless track livery yard and managed really well.
All was fine over winter, three farriers have seen his hooves since last summer and all have said there's no signs of lami and that it must have been bruised soles. He was barefoot throughout all of this, now shod in front.
Got down this morning and he wasn't himself, knew something was off before I even got him out of his stable. Walked him out and he looked very slightly short behind but I wasn't overly concerned and turned out as usual. Couldn't shake a nagging feeling and went back about 11:30 to check on him to find him now noticeably lame behind, brought him in and pulses are up in all four legs. He's now in on a deep bed, gave him half a bute and swapped him onto hay. I'm now in a massive panic after him having the whole of last summer off. I don't think it's lami, it's more as if he can't tolerate hard ground maybe combined with this heat? I really don't know. Tested for cushings and ems last year, both negative.
Planning to box rest til mid week ish, maybe bute for a day or two then see how he is. I just don't know what to do if I'm honest? I mean it's a waiting game really, he could be fine and all of this worry is for nothing but I've got a bad feeling
Don't even know what I'm after, advice/a bit of a moan? I was gutted to lose all of last summer with him and dreading it happening again.
