There is a lot going on with this horse which I believe is systemic and I have my own thoughts and ideas but just wondered what would be your concerns in seeing this? I’ve owned this horse for 6 years and he’s never once returned a completely normal (or what I would consider to be normal) blood profile.

He’s on a good quality mineral supplement with a couple of extras thrown in for good measure due to previous blood issues.

Away you go…

Nothing exciting on those bloods, however interpreting results like this on their own is usually fruitless. What did your vet recommend? Or what other symptoms does the horse have?

AST is slightly raised, which could be liver or muscle damage but it can go into the thousands when they’ve tied up.

I’d start feeding natural vitamin E as it’s a antioxidant and your see a improvement in a few days if it’s working, you could add milk thistle to support his liver.

Be interesting to re test after a month on those.

Does your horse have any symptoms?
Mine had liver problems in the summer he was generally a bit off and suffering with photosensitivity in the sun. His AST levels were fine but it was the gamma levels which were not normal. He’s been having milk thistle and the levels have returned to normal although vet said he’ll need it for life to keep the levels right.
