Hi all,
Just wondering if any of you keep your horse competition livery or have someone else compete for you?
If so what do you expect to pay and what is included in the price?
Many thanks

xx

I owned a gelding few years ago who was on comp livery and it was £145 a week with entries and travel extra. The livery manager bought him from me cos they could see his potential

You pay for the priviledge of someone else riding & enjoying your horse at your expense. :(

How helpful. Have you thought about mastermind ? Specialist subject 'Statement of the Obvious'?

There are many reasons someone may need competition livery. Rider injury, Horse with potential but rider can only school etc a few times a week, expert advice etc.

Why the sarcasm oh person without any sense of humour. You have provided nothing of worth to the discussion either, have you?

Competition Livery can vary tremendously in price. It can depend on who you are at livery with, some riders charge very high prices for any schooling & riding in competitions. Others are much more reasonable & realise that if they keep their prices reasonable then if there are problems in the future then you will return to them for further work. I had one horse at a yard on livery for some training each day & out to an event on the last day. He was there a week & the bill was under £150. I considered myself lucky going to this particular rider as the week could easily have cost double or more. :)

Weird comment!

OP it does vary somewhat.
Last time I had a horse away on competition livery it cost £150pw + shoes/vet/wormer/Physio plus entries and transport at £1 a mile (although that was split between the number of horses on lorry).

Thanks everyone for the feedback, my mare is currently on full livery but shows far more potential than my time or talent could maximise! So, the lovely lady who owns the yard and schools her for me has agreed to compete her BD and so far on her two trips out we have come home with red rosettes:) I have had to come to terms with the fact that work and family means that this arrangement is the best for my girl and that this is the best way for me to enjoy seeing her do what she does best.
This is obviously an extra on top of the full training livery and so I am simply trying to gauge what we ought to be adding in on top of the current training livery costs, this is £140 a week. I provide the transport and pay the entries.
All feedback gratefully received as this is new territory for me!
Thanks xx

Sorry do you mean that you already pay £140 a week..... ???

£140 is a very reasonable rate for 7 day training livery! I know of places where you will get very little change from £250 per week for schooling livery! And people had 3 horses here, plus daily lessons!!!!
Also know of places where people pay over £200 for full livery!

I would just be looking to pay the rider the cost of their time at the comp if they already solely ride the horse 6 days a week and you are covering all other costs.......Around £15 to £20???

Thank You, I think that £140 is pretty good too. The care is absolutely first rate and she is schooled six days a week. We went for two weeks and have never left :)

My youngster (who will be 4) is going to competition livery in the spring. When he first goes there it is £160pw but less once he is eventing as the rider wants the ride. So I will in fact be paying more for schooling livery than comp livery! I will be paying for everything else on top.
