Do you prefer being on a small or big yard?
I am on a small DIY yard there is only 3 families (well mothers and daughters) inluding my mum and I. Its the only yard iv ever been on and have always liked being there, we all used to get on really well, used to hack out together and went to shows together in the summer but recently it feels like were being kinda pushed out, not spoken to as much etc. I just get on with what iv got to do. Just thought things like this may be less noticable on a bigger yard with more people.

I've been on a yard with 12 horses (and like 6 owners) and now on a yard with 30 horses ....I prefer the bigger yard by far!...for EXACTLY the reasons you state.

I've only ever been on small yards (max of 12 horses) so I would say small. The only reason being a local yard (about 70 horses) is full of bitchiness, I remember seeing a friend there once and the police were called to stop and argument between two liveries, so now I wouldn't be too keen on moving to a big yard.

I think ours is quite small, Theres about 13 horses but about 6 owners and theres hardly ever anyone about when I go up apart from weekends.

A few year ago, I had my mare on the same yard but there was more like 12 owners and so I liked that better

I think I'd like a middlesized yard

i prefer ot be on my own full stop and not on livery lol. i loved it though when we were on a yard where there was approx 12 horses, was lovely, everyone helped each other out but then the yard grew to approx 80 horses and the atmosphere went down hill. love having my own yard now

The less people the better!! We're on a yard with one other family (overall there are 4 horses, our 2 and their 2) and we're counting down the days till they leave. To give you a better idea, we've been at 3 different yards and have met about 13 other 'groups'- of them, we've referred to 3 of them by their actual names... (not to their face obvs, and nothing nasty- just The Windies or The Numpties etc.)

I have always heard that big yards are/can be bitchy. I ideally (sp) would like stables and fields of my own at a nice house

but can't see that ever happening.

This exactly the same for me and the minute they move out i'm taking the other two stables to stop any more numpties moving in !

i am own my own and its perfect, that yard i was a livery at before was full of weirdos and things went missing on a regular basis, the arena was always hogged by certain people making it very hard to ride, at least now i know its always free

I prefer being on a smaller yard ( my yard at the moment has 16 horses and 14 owners) were all adults and its just really friendly. No bitchyness goes on. On bigger yards i have been to its always been very bitchy

definatly prefer being on my own iv tried the livery yards and from my experience theres nothing but bitchiness weather youve got a shetland or shire or dressage star or rescue pony everyone should have the right to look after there own pony without being critisised over it just my opinion tho i would love a riding companion

Hhhm, been on a yard with 2 owners (3 horses), then onto a 15 or so owners(20 horses? +RS horses) now on a 13 horse, 10 owners?

Current yard is my favourite by a long waay. Didn't like the 1st much as just me and another woman, missed having people my own age to ride with, other people to bounce ideas off etc. It worked in some ways but not in others. The larger yard was bitchy, a lot of yard politics going on with it being all DIY, always squabbles over fields etc etc.

Yard I'm on now has next to no bitching, its a part/full yard so everyone kinda does the same, 2 other girls my age... age ranges from like 1-75! Not all women, it's just a genuinely lovely bunch of people!!
