Sooooooooo

This has got me stumped. Have vet coming at 12 today so who has an opinion about this?

Basically my 5 year old cob was lame in field last night about four hours after farrier. Straight away called farrier who said would come this am.

Was difficult to see which leg was lame so I picked up a foreleg to check foot etc and she went down on her knees. Called vet who said would come out in morning but would prob be fine until then as horse was eating and no obvious distress.

Sooo I then picked up other foot and she went down again! Worried by now I stood watching her for few minutes and though she was placing her feet oddly. Wondered about laminitis though not had a laminitic before and she's 15.1 so not pony type,

Anyway called vet again who said bring her off grqass and give 2 bute which I did. Vet agreed could be laminitic and I was also sure could feel slight dgiital pulse.

THEN this morning farrier came and horse not sore in feet with hoof testers and he reckons 80% sure NOT laminitis or sore in feet. Horse not even looking particularly lame this morning but seemed lethargic though ate handful hi fi eagerly and had eaten hay.

Temperature normal, respiration normal bowels and kidneys fine.

I put her back in her box then had another look ten minutes later and eh had perked up quite a lot so I've left her in a small paddock with my other mare and am waiting for the vet as she's 'not quite right'.

WHat on earth is it? She was acutely lame last night, seemed a bit 'short' wen walking today but turned circles much easier. Am stumped!

If the vet tells me is virus I'll scream.

Nail bind from being shod?! the two bute given last night would be making her feel much better this morning. Poss still laminitis tho, given that you are sure she was foot sore last night and was lame i dont see how the farrier can be 80% sure shes not got a foot problem today whilst on bute. I hope shes back to normal soon!

My horse had nail bind once....became a bit pottery a few days after being shod.....blacksmith said can't be nail bind- would have shown straight away, vet couldnt find anything wrong even after using hoof testers etc....horse got worse, I made blacksmith come back and take shoes off.....horse fine.

Changed farrier. And vet.

Next time horse was shod, by new farrier...when he was trimming the hoof he found a collection of blood and pus from the nail bind.....

Would be quite pleased if that's what it turns out to be. Vet said testing for viral/bacterial infection thro white blood cells and also for liver problems. is a bit of a mystery at the moment. Horse now back turned out for time being.... waiting for vet to call back today as they have their own lab.
