What do you think about these saddles?

Think it looks a great idea! Altho would like to see it endorsed by more professional/olympic riders.

Like the idea that its easy to change the size/fitting yourself in just a few minutes- that is something that is sorely needed as one horse can change shape so significantly from month to month.

If it really is as good as the quantam that would be amazing- will never forget how James Robinsons Commanche just looked like he had a new lease of life in his Quantam saddle, the horse literally looked 10 years younger and had so much more athleticsm. Altho having said that, I think anything would look better coming out of a Devoucoux!;)

Glad I am not the only one who thinks they look good! :)

Kerilli- I was going to email the company and ask about UK stockists/users as google has failed to come up with much.

Think these saddles look amazing, if you do get a reply about stockists I would be very interested to hear about it :)

Also I watched the video and love the fact that even though the Major has lived in the USA 40 odd years he still has the quintessential British accent

looks very interesting.
having said that, i've ridden in a quantum saddle and thought it was terribly uncomfortable - alright when i didn't have any stirrups but with was just an odd feeling!

The gullet look similar-ish to the old Wellup trees, which were adjustable with an Allen key. I actually had one and loved it BUT they did have problems long term with the mechanism slipping and even breaking. They also didn't even do a jumping saddle as I think the feeling was people wouldn't - rightly or wrongly - trust that sort of adjustment under that much force.

Very interesting idea, though. I'd just want to know a bit more about how, exactly, the "catch" for the gullet worked and what sort of pressure testing had been done on it.

ive had one of the older versions of these, saddle was lovely to ride in, but fairly heavy, as has been said they adjust with an allen key type thing

jst trying to think what they were named over here.. something begining with an m... i put a thread up.. will go and tr and find it for you.

That's funny, I've got a contour master I was about to p/x back to my saddler - didn't realise other people had heard of them! Mine is the one with the allen key to adjust the tree too!

not well known in this country, i spent a lot of time on google trying to track the actal makers of mine down which is how i found laser.

LOVELY saddles... mydressage was to long in the flaps for my stumps but other thn that was lovely to ride in and fitted well.. althought the key hole was not the most attractive thing

They've been available in the US for years though I have heard rumours they will be available in the UK, they are made here as far as I know. Mechanisms like these have pros and cons - like any adjustable saddle. For instance horses generally need a wider head to the tree if they get more than a couple of sizes wider, this will only open up the angle of the vee. My saddle fitter friend in the US mentions this here:

I really can't see they're at all like the Quantum except for that front mechanism, nothing in terms of how they fit and function is the same. Quantum is loosely based on the reactorPanel - the separate panels are the key, not the width headplate mechanism.

The Wellep adjustable bar has been around for donkeys years - they are bulky under the leg which is why they're not available on all of the more pricey saddles as well as, again, the vulnerability of the mechanism. This is just Laser's version and doesn't look that different. Some people love adjustable bars - most bench made saddle makers could spec one for you, though probably the Wellep design.
