What do you think of these horseboxes?

Having weighed up all the pennies I've decided to go with a cheap, ecconomical run around car for me and a small box for the horse so I have been doing a little research!

I've looked at the Travel two and the Three Counties boxes and have also seen these...

Lorry 3 - my favourite (except colour!)

They are a little more than I was originally planning on spending (about £6K) but I have decided that I'd rather get a little more for my money and buy on finance than compromise on lack of PAS etc.

As for the weight, I would only be looking to take my little mare (16.2hh tb) so even allowing for tack, fuel, hay and water I think I should be ok. If I was ever going far enough to need to take more then I wouldn't be going alone so would ask OH or Mum to bring extras in a car instead but for the most part it will just be locsl stuff anyway.

What do you think?
 
Personally I think these lorries are a little too "flimsy" although I must admit I've never driven one! They look a little too small, especially for a 16.2! I'm not sure I like the ramp spitting half way - I couldn't see my horse loading into that and if they reared up or anything they could easily smack their head on the top part of the ramp! Sorry!

I'm not sure where you are based, but if it's anywhere near London, or you are thinking of travelling to London you need to think about the LEZ scheme as they are diesel engines!
 
My favorite is the first one.

When I went to the Trailblazers finals last year I hired a Theault horsebox from www.atacanterhorseboxhire.co.uk - the horseboxes are built on a Renault Master Chassis. My mum drove it and she said it coped with my 16.3hh warmblood and all our stuff (for a week - was there for dressage and SJ) fine and did not struggle at all.
 
my friend has one very much like lorry1- and loves it.
they have a 15.2ish TB type, who travels well in it.
they say it is lovely to drive, like driving a car, i think its on a renault chassis
 
We had a Marlborough Horsebox built last year - which looks similar ie. 2 horses rearward facing and it is absolutely brilliant. I would check the internal height as Marlborough Horsesbox do a range and we went for the Hunter as it is taller - we have TBs 16hh and 16.3hh - we also had it uprated to 3.9t to allow for 2 large horses etc etc and we also had extra seats put in to carry 5 people.

As for loading - ours go in very easily. The ramp is very low. The TBs did take more of a look than the ponies but went in after a bit of gentle coaxing.

We did try out a couple of bigger lorries which I found really difficult to drive but the Marlborough is so easy to drive. We use it all the time and it is perfect.
 
We have one similar, and have carried 2 x 15 hh horses in it. You do need to get the weight checked - ours is 1280 unladen so enough payload to carry our horses and tack.
Very easy to drive, park etc.,
Our horses load ok, but if you did have one which was likely to pull back and throw its head, then I wouldn't recommend them.
 
do they have much living space? our LT35 had a very small living, and i couldnt be without a bit of living and storage space, if your buying a lorry you'll want the benifits of a lorry, they look nice but a little flimsy so have never considered one myself
 
agree that i wouldnt put a big horse in one of those either as i just dont think they have the headroom. what about a coachbuilt renault master...? also easier to sell on i believe.
