Iberians don't often make bonny youngsters IME and they can take a while to look like an Iberian! She wouldn't be for me (although I think many of you would be surprised to see her in 6/7 years time).
Don't give an animal horse or otherwise as a present unless it's specifically been picked/singled out by the person it's intended for. Just not a good idea IMO. Best surprise would be for husband to take wife on the day unknowing the destination or intent. Then once there say you have 'x' to spend go pick one.
She doesn't do it for me I'm afraid, checked out the sire and dam and sadly not my cup of tea either (but no expert on the breed). I would say give her a cheque for the money or go on some stud visits, she is sure to find one that jumps out at her. Half the fun of buying a horse is the thinking about it
When I was searching for my dream PRE I found spending time at a good stud was invaluable. I ended up buying two and both are very different in type, but I fell in love with them both.
I would also say that a woman that has hankered after a PRE would want a purebred baby.
